Minimum Essential Characteristics (MEC) Lock and Key Contract

I have several locking system considerations for locks and keys contract. I will attempt to pin down the specifics for this contract that the contractors will use to provide the services requested via the contract.

Below are standard expectation for the locking and keying contract:

1. Locks must fit the existing solid wood door throughout the facilities for buildings, 500, 501, 503, 508, 509, measuring 1 ¾ inch width, w/o drilling required to install locks.

2. The hardware should be adaptable to the existing door opening, face plate measuring 8” x 1 ¼”.

3. The material should be made of quality metal, fire resistant and installed in grade1 security mortise locks, auxiliary deadbolts, IAW the UL Underwriter Laboratory and Building Hardware

Manufactures Association (BHMA) standards.

4. The locking mechanism must have anti‐panic features that will allow occupant person to lock the door from the inside as well as disengage the locking device by turning the handle from the interior.

5. Locks shall not have any open holes that will allow surreptitious entry.

6. Locks must be pick, and tamper resistant cylinders.

7. All locks shall ensure occupants cannot be inadvertently trapped inside rooms, which is to be able to exit w/o keys.

8. Keys should be compatible to the cylinders provided and capable of duplications.

9. All keys will be patented. Keys requiring remake will accomplished at this office through vendor.

(No duplicates will be allowed to be made at local hardware store.) to be copied. The only place to have keys remade will be here.

10. We will not have any doors that are going to require battery operations type locks that I’m currently aware of.
