STATEMENT OF WORK

MATLAB

1.0 BACKGROUND

The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) is a Naval research activity operating under the direction of the Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). We provide research, development, test and evaluation, engineering, analysis, and assessment; as well as Fleet support capabilities for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, and offensive and defensive undersea weapon systems; and stewards existing and emerging technologies in support of undersea warfare.

2.0 SCOPE

The contractor shall provide the following courses:

MATLAB Fundamentals, 3-Day Course

MATLAB Programming Techniques, 2-Day Course

The following additional courses will be optional and exercised in a contract modification based upon NUWCDIVNPT’s discretion:

MATLAB Fundamentals, 3-Day Course

MATLAB Programming Techniques, 2-Day Course

MATLAB Signal Processing Using MATLAB, 2-Day Course

MATLAB Data Processing and Visualization, 1-Day Course

MATLAB Building Interactive Application, 1-Day Course

MATLAB Image Processing, 2-Day Course

The Period of Performance begins the date of award and has an end date of 21 August 2020.

3.0 REQUIREMENTS

The contractor shall provide an off-site location within ten

(10) miles of NUWCDIVNPT equipped to facilitate the training and provide any computer equipment and software necessary to teach the courses. A training certificate for each individual shall be delivered upon class completion.

3.1 Instruct Course “MATLAB Fundamentals”

The contractor will conduct the three-day course entitled

“MATLAB Fundamentals” and the two-day course entitled “MATLAB

Programming Techniques’. The contractor shall provide all required course materials (i.e. laptop, course manual, pen, notepad, and course file DVD/USB) for a maximum of up to twenty

(20) attendees. This course is intended for beginners and individuals desiring to review course information and materials.

No prior programming experience or knowledge of MATLAB is assumed, and the course is structured to allow thorough assimilation of ideas through hands-on examples and exercises.

MATLAB competency is developed in a natural way, with an emphasis on practical application to engineering. Themes of data analysis, visualization, modeling and programming are explored throughout the course.

The course shall cover (but is not limited to):

Working with MATLAB user interface

Entering commands and creating variables

Performing analysis on vectors and matrices

Visualizing vector and matrix data

Working with data files/data types

Automating commands with scripts

Writing programs with logic and flow control

3.2 Instruct “MATLAB Programming Techniques”

The contractor may conduct the two (2) day course titled “MATLAB

Programming Techniques.” The contractor shall provide all required course materials for a maximum of up to twenty (20) attendees. This course provides hands-on experience using the features in the MATLAB language to write efficient, robust, and well-organized code. These concepts form the foundation for writing full applications, developing algorithms, and extending built-in MATLAB capabilities. Details of performance optimization are covered.

This course shall cover (but is not limited to):

Programming for correctness

Structuring data

Structuring code

Classes and objects

PREREQUISITE: MATLAB Fundamentals or equivalent experience using MATLAB and familiarity with basic programming concepts.

3.3 Instruct “MATLAB Signal Processing”

The contractor may conduct the two (2) day course titled “MATLAB for Signal Processing.” The contractor shall provide all required course materials for a maximum of twenty (20) attendees. This two-day course shows attendees how to analyze signals and design signal processing systems using MATLAB and

Signal Processing Toolbox. Parts of the course will also use the Filter Design Toolbox.

This course shall cover (but is not limited to):

Creating and analyzing signals

Using different spectral analysis tools

Designing and analyzing filters

Introduction to advanced filter design

Filter implementation issues

PREREQUISITE: MATLAB Fundamentals or equivalent experience using MATLAB, and a good understanding of signal processing theory, including linear systems, spectral analysis, and filter design.

3.4 Instruct “MATLAB Data Processing and Visualization (MLVI)”

The contractor may conduct the one (1) day course titled “MATLAB

Data Processing and Visualization (MLVI).” The contractor shall provide all required course materials for a maximum of up to twenty (20) attendees. This course focuses on importing and preparing data for data analytics applications.

This course shall cover (but is not limited to):

Importing data

Processing data

Customizing visualizations

Working with irregular data

PREREQUISITE: MATLAB Fundamentals or equivalent experience using MATLAB, and a good understanding of signal processing theory, including linear systems, spectral analysis, and filter design.

3.5 Instruct “MATLAB Building Interactive Applications”

The contractor may conduct the one (1) day course titled “MATLAB

Building Interactive Applications.” The contractor shall provide all required course materials for a maximum of up to twenty (20) attendees. This course demonstrates how to create an interactive user interface for your applications (apps) in

MATLAB. Attendees will learn about user interface controls such as push buttons, sliders, and menus, and how to use them to create a robust and user-friendly interface for MATLAB applications. No prior experience of programming graphical interfaces is required.

This course shall cover (but is not limited to):

Laying out apps in the Application Designer environment

Creating callback functions for interactive components

Creating and updating graphical objects in apps

Making app components responsive to user behavior

Creating applications with multiple windows

PREREQUISITE: MATLAB Fundamentals or equivalent experience using MATLAB, and a good understanding of signal processing theory, including linear systems, spectral analysis, and filter design.

3.6 Instruct “MATLAB Image Processing (MLIP)”

The contractor may conduct the two (2) day course titled “MATLAB

Image Processing.” The contractor shall provide all required course materials for a maximum of up to twenty (20) attendees.

This course provides hands-on experience with performing image analysis. Examples and exercises demonstrate the use of appropriate MATLAB and Image Processing Toolbox functionality throughout the analysis process.

This course shall cover (but is not limited to):

Importing and exporting images

Analyzing images interactively

Removing noise

Aligning images and creating a panoramic scene

Detecting edges, lines and circles in an image

Segmenting objects based on their color and texture

Modifying objects’ shape using morphological operations

Measuring shape properties

Performing batch analysis over sets of images

PREREQUISITE: MATLAB Fundamentals or equivalent experience using MATLAB, and a good understanding of signal processing theory, including linear systems, spectral analysis, and filter design.
