About this file

This is a Requirements/Specification Document for a 25 GHz Signal and Spectrum Analyzer required by the NIST Communications Technology Laboratory's Fiber Sources and Applications Group (675.02) in Boulder, CO. The document details specifications for one spectrum analyzer to support frequency comb research, specifically for transferring phase stability of optical cavities to microwave signals.

The required analyzer must have a minimum frequency of 10 kHz, maximum frequency of 25 GHz, minimum resolution bandwidth of 1 Hz, maximum analysis bandwidth of 10 MHz, ability to demodulate analog AM and PM signals, and operate as a standalone benchtop unit. Delivery is required within 6 weeks after receipt of order to NIST-Boulder. The equipment requires on-site inspection and acceptance within 7 business days. Standard manufacturer warranty is acceptable, and no installation, training, calibration, maintenance services, or government-furnished equipment is required. The document indicates most ancillary considerations like planning visits, electronic media, facility requirements, and travel are marked as Not Applicable (N/A).

Requirements / Specification Document

TITLE: 25 GHz Signal and Spectrum Analyzer

Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group:

Communications Technology Laboratory Spectrum Technology and Research Division Fiber Sources and Applications Group (675.02)

General Statement of Need:

The Fiber Sources and Applications group requires a high-speed spectrum analyzer to support its frequency comb research. Specifically, it uses frequency combs to transfer the exquisite phase stability of optical cavities to microwave signals up to 10s of GHz. To characterize the microwave components used in those setups, a spectrum analyzer that supports frequencies above 25 GHz is required.
