BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT

TANQUE/BADGER DEN FENCE REPAIR

GILA DISTRICT – SAFFORD FIELD OFFICE

STATEMENT OF WORK

PURPOSE FOR WORK

The boundary fence between two BLM grazing allotments needs repair. The two grazing allotments include the Tanque and Badger Den Allotments. The boundary fence has been frequently repaired by the Tanque Allotment permittee, and there has not been a permittee on the Badger Den Allotment to assist with the maintenance because the allotment has been unpermitted for livestock grazing for many years. Much of the boundary fence is still in good condition, however, a 4.5 mile section needs extensive repair or replacement. The fence that needs to be repaired consists of a combination of steel and wooden material; damaged or nonfunctional materials would be replaced. Repair of fences are necessary for livestock grazing management to prevent unauthorized grazing/trespass from occurring. If the fence repair is not completed, trespassing cattle could affect the amount of forage available on each allotment and could negatively impact the health of the rangeland.

The work identified in this contract aligns with the DOI Departmental Priority, “Working to conserve at least 30% each of our lands and waters by the year 2030”, by controlling livestock movement and thus providing protection of rangelands from unauthorized livestock grazing. This work also supports the presidential administration’s “America the Beautiful” Initiative priority, “Creating jobs by investing in restoration and resilience project and initiatives, including the Civilian Climate Corps,” through the creation of work regarding the restoration of critical infrastructure for livestock grazing management.
