About this file
This is a Statement of Work for the renovation of Greenhouse 3 at the USDA-ARS Subtropical Horticulture Research Station in Miami, Florida, located at 13601 Old Cutler Road. The greenhouse (80 feet by 43 feet) is critical to the Cacao, Ornamentals, and Tropical Fruit projects, serving as a controlled environment for seedlings and valuable regenerative germplasm before advancement to larger pots or field deployment.
The renovation project encompasses four identified tasks: removal and reinstallation of the greenhouse cooling system, repair of the badly damaged concrete slab floor (which presents a safety hazard due to uneven surfaces), installation of exhaust fans, and removal and replacement of damaged flashing for weatherproofing. The work requires utility hookup and system upgrades to accommodate the new cooling system and exhaust fans. A drainage system must be installed before the concrete slab is poured. The anticipated timeline is 6 weeks, weather-dependent, with work restricted during severe storms. The contractor must provide all equipment and tools, work only during standard business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), and must vacate the property before 5:00 p.m. when station gates close. No weekend or holiday work is permitted. The contractor is responsible for removing and disposing of all waste materials generated during the project.

This greenhouse is utilized by Cacao, Ornamentals, and the Tropical Fruit projects at the Subtropical Horticulture Research Station of the USDA-ARS in Miami, FL. This greenhouse is vital for these projects because it is where small seedlings are kept before being stepped up into larger pots or moved to the field or to another greenhouse. The valuable regenerative germplasm and experimental plants are grown under a controlled environment.
General Statement of Work- The greenhouse dimensions are 80 ft. in length by 43ft wide. The foundation type is peat, rock, and concrete. The location of the greenhouse is immediately north of Building #2 and south of Building # 63. It has breezeways accessible to vehicles. Due to the required installation of the new cooling system and the exhaust fans, the utility hookups/ systems must be upgraded. Currently, the greenhouse floor is a combination of concrete walkways and compact soil. The concrete slab floor is badly damaged and has become a safety issue due to the uneven surface, and this will need to be replaced. The greenhouse has no drainage system and needs to be included before the concrete slab is poured. Finally, to stormproof the structure, damaged flashing will be removed and replaced.
Identified Tasks:
1. To remove and reinstall greenhouse cooling system.
2. Repair Damaged Concrete Slab
3. Install Exhaust Fans
4. Remove and install damaged flashing
Period of Service- The renovation will take 6 weeks to complete and will be dependent upon the weather, as the construction team will not be able to work during severe storms.
Work Requirement- Miami USDA-ARS-SHRS will require that the construction team bring their own equipment. USDA-ARS-SHRS will not supply any tools for this project. The construction team must work between normal business hours, 8:00 am-4:30 pm. They will be escorted off the property before 5:00 p.m., when the gates to the station close. The team will not be permitted to work weekends or holidays. The construction team will remove all their garbage, and it will be their responsibility to dispose of the waste.
