PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose:
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is establishing a new laboratory that will use cutting-edge physiological, imaging, and behavioral techniques to investigate the relationship between neurological disorders and brain function at the molecular, synaptic, cellular, and circuit levels. The new laboratory requires equipment for cranial stereotaxic surgeries on mice, including a dual arm stereotaxic apparatus (with digital readout of stereotaxic coordinates) and a rodent warming system.
2. Background Information and Objective:
The NINDS will soon establish the Laboratory of Circuits, Synapses, and Molecular Signaling (LCSMS), which will be led by the new Scientific Director. Several major lines of research require survival surgeries on mice. This includes microinjection of viral vectors into various brain regions, and the implantation of guide cannulae and optical fibers for the manipulation of neural circuits. For these purposes, the LCSMS requires a stereotaxic apparatus for mice (along with digital readout to improve accuracy of stereotaxic surgeries), along with a rodent warming system (to maintain constant body temperature throughout surgical procedures).
3. Generic Name of Product:
Mouse stereotaxic surgical equipment
4. Salient characteristics
The NINDS LCSMS requires surgical equipment for mice. The vendor shall provide equipment brand name or equal to Kopf Model 942 small animal stereotaxic apparatus with digital display readout. The equipment should include (A) a stereotaxic apparatus with digital readout, (B) a rodent warming system, and (C) adaptive nose/tooth bar mice of various sizes/ages.
(A) Stereotaxic apparatus
• A stereotaxic apparatus suitable for cranial surgeries on mice with body weights of between 10-75 grams (g). The apparatus must include at least one manipulator arm.
• A stereotaxic apparatus with a digital readout is required for improved accuracy of stereotaxic surgeries.
• The apparatus should have a footprint smaller than 30 cm x 30 cm.
• Ear and tooth bars that allow the height adjustment to accommodate mice as small as 10 g and as large as 75 g.
Version 11-30-2016-1
(B) Heating system
• Heating system (e.g., a warming pad with temperature control) compatible with the stereotaxic apparatus to maintain the mouse’s body temperature while it is under gas anesthesia.
(C) Adaptive nose/tooth bar for mice
• An anesthesia mask or adaptor to allow for the use of gas anesthesia on a mouse.
5. Quantity: 2 sets of equipment
6. Delivery Date:
The contractor shall deliver and install the equipment within 45 days after receipt of order.
Delivery must be FOB destination and include inside delivery. On-site training must take place within two (2) weeks of equipment installation. The equipment shall be delivered and installed between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00 pm, Bethesda, MD local prevailing time.
The contractor shall provide an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) certified service technician to perform setup, installation, and an on-site 1-day training session for staff members.
7. Warranty/Service:
Contractor shall warrant that the Equipment will be free from material defects for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of acceptance. All service performed on this equipment shall be provided by certified and factory trained technicians. Technicians shall have the ability to diagnose the systems on site via remote access. Contractor shall provide any required replacement components due to malfunctions on-site. Warranty shall not include routine or periodic maintenance services.
8. Delivery Requirements:
The Contractor shall deliver and install the required equipment in coordination with Government officials. Delivery must be FOB Destination and must include inside installation.
The equipment shall be delivered and installed between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm, Bethesda, MD local prevailing time, Monday through Friday.
This system will be delivered to newly renovated space in building 35A 3B-1010.
Coordination of delivery will be performed with the Government at the time the equipment is ready to be shipped.
