Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs
PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose:
To improve the imaging quality of our existing Nikon confocal microscope, Hattar lab is purchasing a high-sensitivity GaAsP detector module and its matching emission cube, a lens set, an image processing software and a compatible computer. With all these upgrades, Hatter lab’s existing confocal microscope can resolve more signals from the same sample and improve its image quality with a much higher speed.
2. Background Information and Objective:
Hattar lab is interested in dissecting retina-brain neural circuits in response to light. Our work relies heavily on high quality imaging of brain tissue samples. This procurement is for a high-sensitivity GaAsP detector and its matching emission cubes, a lens set, a software for better post-imaging processing and a computer.
3. Generic Name of Product
A high sensitivity detector module and its matching emission cube, a lens set, a software and a computer, to improve imaging quality
4. Purchase Description:
Procurement for a high sensitivity detector module and its matching emission cube, a lens set, a software and a computer to improve imaging quality of our existing Nikon confocal microscope.
5. Salient characteristics: Item must:
a. Have GaAsP equivalent detector module:
• It must have the highest standard of image quality and highest light sensitivity. The
GaAsP detector uses gallium arsenide phosphide (GaAsP) in its PMT cathode. This novel technology enables it to achieve higher quantum efficiency than types of detectors.
• The detector module must be compatible with hardware and software of Hatter lab’s existing Nikon confocal microscope.
b. Be newly designed emission cubes for 4 channel GaAsP/PMT detector that is compatible with our existing Nikon confocal microscope.
c. Silicone oil objective must be
• Able to acquire High resolution Imaging of Thick Specimens
• Ideal for super-resolution microscopy "N-SIM" "N-STORM"
• Compatible with Hatter lab’s existing Nikon confocal microscope.
