RAC North Lake Fuel Reduction FAQ v1

Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Trinity River Management Unit

June 30, 2016

Notes and Questions:

Question: Does the project area and acreage include the Trinity Center Cemetery?

Answer: The project area does not include the cemetery. The cemetery has been flagged off and no treatments will occur within its boundary.

Question: Is the desired date of completion, August 19, a hard set date or is it negotiable?

Answer: The August 19 date is negotiable dependent upon various factors such as wildfire, Project Activity Levels (PALs), etc. This would be communicated to the CO/COR if it becomes an issue.

Question: Do suspended trees need to be cut down to ground level?

Answer: Yes, cut down suspended trees at any size.

Question: What do you want done in open areas where reproduction (saplings) does not create enough slash to pile?

Answer: Cut down trees (greater than 18-inches tall) and lop and scatter in open areas, otherwise put into piles where available.

Other Notes:

The north project boundary has been slightly revised just south of Flume creek. This only lessened the acreage by approximately 2 acres.

The south project boundary has been revised to go along an unofficial road north of the KOA campground, which lessened the project acreage by approximately 2 acres.

The project area is approximately 96 acres (see attached map dated 06-29-2016).

Favor the oaks so that if there is an oak versus a conifer you would cut the conifer.

Use waxed paper since plastic is not allowed within the air shed burning rules.

Trees/brush less than 18-inches tall do not need to be cut.

Most of the user-created roads are not within the Forest Service road system, however, for purposes of this contract they can be used during official business.

Firewood collection will only occur after the contractor has completed work.

The Forest Service will post signs stating project work ahead and tree felling operations. However, there is no guarantee the signs will remain on site due to people taking them down. The Contractor is still responsible for posting tree felling safety signs during day to day operations.

There are no riparian designations, however, do not cut down riparian vegetation (e.g., maple, white alder, etc.) and do not pile within the creeks/stream beds.

Do not cut down dogwoods unless you need space to pile slash.

There is very little poison oak.

If hazard trees are felled, leave boles unbucked on the ground.
