GENERAL NOTES-ROAD LOGS
GENERAL NOTES
Section 203 – Removal of Structures and Obstructions: All pipes being replaced (and their accessories) shall be removed and disposed off government land in compliance with state, federal and local regulations. This section does NOT include any excavation, only the removal of the pipe and accessories.
Section 303 – Reconditioning: This work consists of reconditioning ditches, shoulders, roadbeds, aggregate surfaces, or the entire road.
Section 602 – Culverts and Drains: As stated in the specification, the contractor shall determine the final location, skew, length, elevations, and grade. This also includes installation of down pipes on existing culverts. Do not order or install culverts until the CO has accepted the final structure size, length, and alignment.
Section 607 – Cleaning, Reconditioning, and Repairing Existing Drainage Structures - Work under this section includes specifically the cleaning of all culvert inlets and outlets up to 48” diameter and any material inside the culvert when noted in the road log. The road log will detail the items of work required under this pay item.
Final shaping of the road at culvert installation and replacement sites shall be constructed so no water diversion potential exists in case the culvert plugs and fails. This shall be accomplished by shaping a dip in the road over the culvert location, or installing a rolling dip downgrade of the culvert at the soonest possible location.
Pay Item 20467 – Drivable Drainage Dip: This pay item includes the excavation, shaping, and aggregate surfacing for rolling dip installation. The aggregate shall be spread the full length of the constructed dip, the full width of the road, and at a 4 inch compacted depth.
Pay Item 30201 – Roadway Aggregate: This pay item includes aggregate surfacing over culvert locations, spot rocking, and where required in the general notes and plans.
Pay Item 62540 – Mulching, Straw Bales: Apply uniformly across disturbed ground (on fill slopes at culvert installation sites), at rates noted on the plans.
