Mount Laguna Whole Tree Chipping Cleveland National Forest

AG-9AB5-S-15-0037

Questions and Answers

1) Will we know about the funding of the 100 acres before the contract gets awarded? We most likely will not know about funding for the 100 acres before the contract is awarded, but we will know prior to the start of work.

2) Does the contract allow equipment other than the whole tree chipper to complete the work, or is there a minimum size allowable for the chipper (for example 16”-24” chipping capacity)? No, equipment specified in the contract must be used. Contractor must provide specified equipment to chip trees up to 24”DBH. If the equipment cannot chip the most large end of the bole (i.e. 22”-24”), it will be acceptable to leave this remaining material on the forest floor. There will be very few trees that will be between 22”-24”, so there will be very few instances where this may occur.

3) Does contract include chipping “broadleaf” and conifer trees? No, conifer trees only.

4) Will there be some flexibility on when to start work once the notice to proceed is issued? We will be working closely with the contractor who is awarded the contract. I will give the contractor updates (on felling) and as much notice as possible, to ensure they are able to make arrangements to prepare for the start of work. It is good business for us to communicate with the contractor to ensure that we don’t have logs sitting on the ground, and those contractors can manage their competing workloads.
