Questions and Answers- 2012 South Kaibab Aspen Fence

Question 1: Concerning the tree felling at McDougal Spring, will all the trees be marked so there are no uncertainty of which trees to remove?

Answer 1: Only drop dead trees within the flagged perimeter areas of the line items or as indicated in exhibits of the line items are to be felled.

Question 2: How are we to remove the trees or do we remove them at all?

Answer 2: Trees do not have to be removed except for a designated distance away from roads & hiking trails as in specifications.

Question 3: How are we to get our material to the fence locations without using an auto? Or am I reading this incorrectly?

Answer 3: The units are accessible by forest roads and supplies may be taken in that way.

Question 4: Are the fence lines marked?

Answer 4: The fence perimeter is flagged in red as stated in the contract specifications.

Question 5: How firm is the 35 calendar days?

Answer 5: Firm

Question 6: If you do not concrete your wood post corners, how do you secure them.? Do you drive them in, or dig and set them with packed dirt (assuming there is no tree to use )?

Answer 6: The posts are installed in the ground as in contract specifications & packed with soil & often mixed with a few small rocks.

Question 7: Would a substitution in materials using black pipe instead of wood be acceptable?

Answer 7: A change in material would entail a change in the specifications and will not be acceptable. Any fence design that involves pouring cement footings for posts are unacceptable.

Question 8: Will a bobcat be OK to use to drill the holes?

Answer 8: A bobcat can be used to drill holes & stretch wire. One of the fences on Wright Hill is about 30% slope on the top of the perimeter but may not need to drill holes there.

Question 9: The specifications are for a 7 foot tall fence and the posts are 8 foot out of the ground. If the 8 foot wire is cheaper than 2-4 foot rolls, can the enclosure be a full 8 foot tall?

Answer 9: The contract specs state 8’ field fence can also be used. The 8’ field fence is heavier & difficult to roll out & stretch but the Forest Service project crews have used it in the past to build plantation fences usually on flat terrain.
