Brush Pile Construction

Use largest available material when constructing foundation layer for bottom of pile. Lay logs parallel to one another with 4 – 10 inch spacing in between logs. Base layer should form a minimum pile of 64 square feet (8 feet by 8 feet). Form a second layer perpendicular to the first layer with similar spacing between logs. Repeat alternating layers to a minimum height of 18 inches and a maximum height of 36 inches. Finish pile with fine debris and slash on top of structure to a minimum height of 5 foot and maximum height of 8 foot.

Contractor Furnished Property

The contractor will furnish all necessary equipment, such as hand saws, chain saws, clearing saws, brush cutters or other hand cutting equipment as needed. The contractor is responsible for all transportation to, from and between the work sites for all supplies, labor and equipment. All power tools shall be equipped with a Forest Service approved spark arrestor and shall be in good operating condition. Contractor shall make provisions for or have suitable equipment to prevent or extinguish any fire that may be due to implementation of contractual work. The contractor will provide appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). PPE is to be used at all times while performing cutting operations.

Government Furnished Property

The government will provide all seed for the planting project and a Truax seeder if needed.
