Tusquitee Ranger District Nantahala National Forest Buck Creek AML Safety Closure Project Catholic Fields Adit (Winter 2014)

Catholic Fields Adit: This opening is approximately 5 feet wide by 2 feet high. For a portion of the year, the opening is partially full of water. The base of the opening has deteriorated timbers that were used to stabilize the mouth of the opening. No obvious air movement flowing in or out of the opening was detected during the site visit.

Closure Method: Install cupola at mouth of opening to allow for bat habitat if any to move in and out of the adit.

Catholic Fields Elevator Shaft: This shaft is approximately 5 feet x 5 feet and approximately 37 feet deep. The shaft appears to be lined with 2 x 10 timbers. The shaft is located along a trail that leaves the Catholic fields up the creek to the site. There are currently no safety features installed at the site.
