Questions and Answers

Project: Modernization for USDA-APHIS, Veterinary Services (VS), New York Animal Import Center Incinerator Refurbishments Rock Tavern, NY 1.

Hydraulic System a.

Hydraulic fluid: the specs show a Mobil fluid but the current use is Houghto-Safe which is a water glycol base which does not support combustion. Do you really want the Mobil fluid? Please provide pricing for Houghton-Safe hydraulic fluid as an add alternate.

b.

When the cylinders are replaced should all of the flexible hoses be replaced? Yes, see Specification Section 11001, 3.3, H, 11.

c.

Should the system be drained, flushed, and refilled with new fluid? Yes, see Specification Section 11001, 3.3, H, 10.

2.

Burner system a.

The current system is run on LP fuel which uses a 1” gas train piping system. Natural gas uses a 1 ½” gas train piping system. The pressure limit on the regulators is one pound but all of the valves on the primary chamber burners are rated at ½ pound. The upper chamber burners have valves rated at ½ pound and 2 pounds. Natural gas requires approximately 2 ½ times the volume of gas as LP gas. The incinerators need 7,500 cubic feet per hour of natural gas at 7 inches w. c. for the burners to reach their rating. The building piping is only 2” which will not carry the gas volume unless the pressure is raised. Should we just provide the parts for the burner nozzles and not include any work associated with piping and regulators for natural gas? If we need to include piping and regulators, we will need to know the specifications for the regulators’ pressure rating (ie 5pounds). Provide pricing for parts and labor for conversion of only the burners to Natural Gas (NG). The supply of NG to the burners will be by others under a separate contract. Under that contract the building will be supplied with a 2-1/2” NG line at 5 psi which will be reduced to 2 psi for distribution to the incinerators. At each burner there will be a 1-1/2” gas train with a secondary regulator to provide maximum 12” WC supply to the burner.

3.

Control panels a.

Do you want the entire system rewired instead of using the old wiring? No, Control Panel to equipment and equipment interconnecting wiring shall remain in place and be reused. Motorized dampers will require new power and control conduit and wiring.

b.

Do you want new micro switches? No.

c.

Do you want a chart recorder on each unit? No.

d.

Looking at Honeywell temperature controllers, Idec relays, timers, and switches, can we use the original schematics with modern parts? Yes, plus incorporation of motorized dampers in the control systems.

e.

Is it acceptable to set the new single unit control panel adjacent to the old dual unit control panel temporarily until the second unit is complete and the old control panel can be removed? Yes.
