BOUNDARIES – All boundaries are marked with white tags and/or orange and black striped flagging, unless they are entirely within a post-harvest timber unit. The post-harvest timber units may only be marked at the corners or road crossings with orange and black striped flagging, and will follow the orange paint and blue tagged boundaries, and/ or orange and black striped flagging.

All stem densities vary from dense thickets to small openings less than one acre in size. The quoter is advised to visit the work sites to determine average cut trees per acre prior to submitting a quote. The quoter is responsible for determining the amount of work.

Species abbreviations are as follows: PP = Ponderosa Pine, WL = Western Larch, DF = Douglas-fir, RC = Western Red Cedar, ES = Englemann Spruce, LP = Lodgepole Pine, AF = Sub-Alpine Fir, WH = Western Hemlock, GF = Grand Fir, WP = Western White Pine, PY= Pacific Yew, BC= Black Cottonwood, QA= Quaking Aspen and PB = Birch species

1. No cut trees are as follows: WP, BC, QA, PB and PY.

2. Desirable leave trees in order of preference are as follows: PP, WL, DF, RC, ES, LP, AF, WH and GF.

3. Within 50 feet of the centerline of a stream channel, marsh or lake, shift species preference to RC, WH, ES, PP, WL, DF, LP, AF, and GF. Do not cut or pile within 15 feet of stream channel.

4. All trees over maximum DBH cut limit count as leave trees. Space all healthy, undamaged leave trees to listed average spacing. Spacing can vary up to 50% of the desired distance to leave the most desirable trees. Do not leave any trees with signs of dwarf mistletoe, root rot, or bark beetles. Spacing should be variable in order to retain a mix of individual trees and clumps of 2 to 6 trees. Cut all stumps to less than 6 inches from the ground.

5. Space all healthy, undamaged trees using the desirable leave trees preference order and listed average spacing or trees per acre.

Do not leave any trees with signs of dwarf mistletoe, root rot, bark beetles, low vigor or mechanical damage.

6. Cut all trees that are greater than 2 feet tall and less than 7 inch DBH (< 6 inch for LP).

7. Cut all brush greater than 2 feet in height within 25 feet of road edge.

8. Cut all brush greater than 5 feet in height.

9. Cut all conifers under maximum DBH cut limit within 50 feet of Aspen clones, except for healthy WL and PP. Aspen clones are 3 or more live aspen trees greater than 5 inches DBH that are within 20 feet of each other.

10. Cut all stumps to a height less than 6 inches from the ground. Low-stump to 6 inches all commercially harvested or mechanically damaged stumps that are greater than 12 inches.

11. No cutting in mapped or unmapped wildlife exclusions, sensitive plant exclusions, or untreated areas (skips). Exclusions are marked with orange and black striped ribbon. Unmapped untreated skips are clumps of trees that are all painted with orange paint, and are not marked with orange and black striped flagging.

12. Lop and scatter when slash accumulations exceed 2 feet in depth. Cut slash into lengths of 6 feet or less. Slash shall be pulled back 6 feet from unit boundaries, leave trees, trails and from fences.

13. Cut all slash material (both harvest activity and contractor) into lengths less than 10 feet.

14. Hand pile all slash (both harvest activity and contractor) that is between 1 and 7 inches in diameter, and greater than 3 feet in length including branches that are on downed trees. Piled material shall be placed in a uniform direction and compacted down to limit air pockets. Hand piles must be located at least 6 feet from leave trees greater than 6 inch DBH and at least 20 feet from any Forest boundaries, unit boundaries and county roads. Pile height must be the same as or greater than pile width. Minimum pile height and width is 4 feet by 4 feet. Hand piles should be approximately 4 feet wide by 4 feet high by no more than 8 feet long with waterproof paper covering top 1/4 of pile with material placed on top to prevent loss of paper due to wind.

15. Hand pile all slash within 100 feet of centerline of road. Pile height must be the

Hand piles should be approximately 4 feet wide by 4 feet high by no more than 8 feet long with waterproof paper covering top 1/4 of pile with material placed on top to prevent loss of paper due to wind.
