Construct New Visitor Contact Station

NAICS Code: 236220

Estimated Cost Range: $5 million ‐ $10 million

Estimated Period of Performance: December 2020 – May 2022

Project Description

The purpose of this project is to construct a new visitor contact station as a central point of services for park visitors. The new building shall provide adequate indoor and covered outdoor space for educational and interpretive programs as well as special events. The new building shall support an information desk and partner sales area. The existing 650 square foot historic log cabin shall be re‐purposed (under a separate funded project) to provide interpretive and educational space. Existing facilities (fee booth and restroom building) shall be removed in order to reduce deferred maintenance and to provide adequate restroom facilities and more effectively manage staff.

The existing facilities do not meet the programmatic or safety requirements of the park. The existing cabin was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937 and was never designed as a visitor center but has been used as an information desk and cooperating association bookstore for over 80 years. The park’s only public restroom is a 500 SF 1950’s era facility which is insufficient to meet the volume of visitors. Both facilities are not Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standards (ABAAS) compliant. The weather at 10,000 feet has frequent lightening and high winds, this new facility shall serve as an emergency shelter.

****Firms interested in the project should possess the following specialized skills and experience and address these specialized skills and experience in their responses to this Notice.
