About this file
This sources sought notice is requesting information from small businesses to determine interest and capability in providing a laser direct infrared (LDIR) chemical imaging system. The system must meet or exceed the 18 salient characteristics described, including a quantum cascade laser light source ranging from 1,800 to 975 cm-1, a mercury cadmium tellurium detector without liquid nitrogen cooling, abilities such as collecting infrared spectral data at a single point in one second and automatically mapping samples with x, y, and z coordinates, and software with fully integrated microplastic identification and automated workflows. Interested small businesses must submit responses by March 7, 2024 to Don Downey at the provided email, including manufacturer information, model, documentation demonstrating the system meets characteristics, and entity identifying information. This notice is not a solicitation and does not obligate the government to issue an award.

Salient Characteristics Brand Name product: Agilent 8700 Laser Direct Infrared (LDIR) Chemical Imaging System Other than brand name products shall meet or exceed the following Brand Name’s Salient Characteristics:
1. Instrument has a quantum cascade laser (QCL) light source with a spectral range from 1,800 cm-1 to 975 cm-1.
2. Instrument has a mercury cadmium tellurium (MCT) detector that is thermoelectrically cooled.
a. Detector doesn’t require liquid nitrogen cooling
3. Ability to collect infrared spectral data (1,800 to 975 cm-1) at a single point in one second
4. Ability to work in reflectance or ATR mode. Light beam is automatically switched between these two modes to the appropriate objectives.
5. Ability to view and image through a large field of view camera and a microscope grade camera.
6. Ability for user to select pixel size from 1 to 40 microns
7. Ability to change pixel resolution or magnification without changing optics
8. Ability to automatically map sample with x, y, and z coordinates.
9. Ability to overlay visible and infrared images for each sample.
10. Ability to analyze samples on slides or filters.
11. Software has a fully automated microplastics workflow
12. Ability to easily import/export files.
13. Ability to enumerate particles and measure their size.
14. Software has fully integrated microplastic spectral library for identifying unknown particles.
15. Ability for users to add reference spectra to the reference library
16. Ability to automatically control visual and infrared focus, polarization, and magnification.
17. Ability to automate sample profiling and infrared data collection.
18. Software has ability to select a region of interest (ROI) on the visible image.
