Most of the North Fork Susie West treatment area consists of many hills with drainages and draws that contain intermittently flowing streams. Terrain varies from flat, 2% slopes in the valley bottoms, to steep hills 15-50% slopes. Soils are loamy, deep, and well-drained. Elevation ranges from 5,100 to 5,600 feet. Vegetation consists of semi-dense to dense stands of Wyoming sagebrush and rabbitbrush shrublands, seeded crested wheat grasslands, mixed native forb and grass areas, and some sparse Utah Juniper stands. Multiple mapped and unmapped two-track roads traverse through the area. The steeper slopes may necessitate backpack spraying.

The smaller section of the project area consists of a flat, dry floodplain encompassing the northwest and western border. Soils are very fine sandy or silt loams and may be very slick when wet. Vegetation in the floodplain consists of crested wheatgrass and basin wildrye grasslands and dense, Basin big sagebrush shrublands.

If water is present during the time of application, the buffers for non-aquatically formulated herbicides will be maintained at 10 feet for application by handgun and 25 feet for application with boom equipment. Spraying up to the water’s edge (within the buffer) will require use of aquatic formulated herbicide and surfactant.
