Specifications for Rectangular Rearing Troughs
15’ 10 “L x 45”W x 38”H – outside dimensions 15’L x 36”W x 34”D – inside dimensions (assumming a 4 inch thick bottom and ~5 inch thick sidewalls.)
Description of Fiberglass Rearing Tank
1. Provide contact molded fiberglass tanks, formed over a monolithic male mold with glossy, smooth interior. Radiuses in corners to be ¾” minimum to 1-1/2” maximum bottom corners, ¾” maximum top edge to flange radius.
2. Screen slots are to be molded or formed below tank level including both side and bottom slots 10 inches from the inside back of the tank, in front of the 4 inch drain. Screen slots shall fit screens with a maximum of 1/16” total slop from front to back surface of slot. Deflection to dictate maximum side slop of screen.
3. The tanks are to be used for the rearing of fish in water temperatures ranging from 0 to 30 degrees Celsius. The tanks are to be used for either interior application as shown on the drawings and may be subjected to the maximum and minimum water temperature range and fluctuations for the geographical location.
4. Maximum deflection on trough sidewalls to be ¼” total, measured at the top flange at any point down the length of the trough. Trough manufacturer responsible for designing trough to meet this requirement. Submit design analysis and calculations stamped by a Professional Engineer.
5. Tank gelcoat to be Isopthalic and applied to a minimum 20 mils thickness.
6. Tank interior surface to be semi-gloss to glossy. No dull or matte finishes. All fiberglass corners must be smooth with minimum 1/4” radius.
7. Fiberglass reinforcement to be a minimum of 5/16” total buildup thickness using Aropol, Reichold, or other similar Isopthalic or Isopthalic blend resin.
8. Fiberglass reinforcement to be chop strand mat, type E glass, with a minimum of (1) layer 24 oz woven roving reinforcement in inner tank layering.
9. All surfaces must be covered with a minimum of 3/16” fiberglass; no exposed wood or steel is permitted. Exposed aluminum or stainless may be allowed if approved by the customer. Include clear design drawings to illustrate.
10. All aluminum or stainless steel edges to be deburred and smooth.
11. Outer tank layer to be 3/16” thick minimum fiberglass applied directly on to foam to provide seamless exterior shell. Exterior of tank to be gelcoated to match the newly acquired Reiff tanks in the quarantine building, with durable urethane clear coat over entire tank surface. Exterior surface to be free of burs and light texture must be smooth to the touch with no voids, cracks, crazing, or discolorations.
12. Trough drain area (area between screen slot and drain end wall) floor to be single layer fiberglass only, 3/8” thick minimum with intermediate reinforcing layer of 24 oz woven roving.
13. All tank hardware to be stainless steel. Any fish contact hardware heads to be smooth such as pan-head.
14. One (1) trough drain fitting to be provided:
a. One (1) 4” Sch 80 PVC bulkhead, slip x FPT and will be installed by the hatchery (provide fittings only at time of delivery).
b. One (1) 4”Sch 40 PVC coupling is to be laminated flush in the drain floor area at end of trough behind screen area. All PVC and fiberglass fittings must be sufficiently surface prepped with coarse grit sanding to ensure good surface bonding of fiberglass to PVC. Fittings must snugly fit Sch 40 PVC piping. Outlet side of fittings as called out on drawings, or slip/coupling if not noted.
15. Tank shall have no legs and lay flat on floor.
Tank Screens
1. Screens to be included are 16 gauge aluminum at minimum and are to fit securely in slot with tolerance according deflection requirements.
2. Sanded, smooth, and fish-friendly and to create sufficient rigidity so that the screen deflects minimally in the water flow direction
3. Screen border to have ½” adjustment available per side either through adjustable hardware or spring action. Stainless hardware and/or spring require.
4. Punch (smoother) side of screen material to face fish side of trough if screens are directional.
5. Screen design must have adjustment of minimum ¼” per side either through stainless spring or wing nut (wing nut placed on non-fish side)
6. Hardware used in screen construction to be smooth and fish-friendly on fish side of trough at minimum (pan- head or flat head bolts, smooth head rivets are examples) Extended Warranty
1. The tanks shall be warranted in writing for a period of three (5) years from the date of acceptance at the hatchery. The warranty shall include defective work, breakage, deformation, cracking, delamination, leakage and loss of finishes or fading of color.
Tank Installation and Delivery
1. The tank manufacturer shall review and certify in writing that all installation requirements as shown on the plans are in accordance with design character and limitations of the unit.
2. The tanks are to be covered and/or protected to prevent damage in shipment and handling. All finished surfaces are to be protected. Any damage to the units incurred in transit and unloading will be the responsibility of the manufacturer. Permits, import requirements, and precautionary measures required for highway transport are the entire responsibility of the manufacturer.
3. The manufacturer shall be responsible for delivery of the unit to the hatchery.
4. The manufacturer shall fully cooperate and will assist the Hatchery with respect to the tank shipping and loading/unloading of the tank. The shipping schedule shall conform to the tank completion schedule.
5. The manufacturer must provide recommended handling directions for setting of the tank and any noteworthy points that would affect tank performance.
6. Prior to shipment, the tanks shall be cleaned to remove any residual parting agent, film or other deleterious material. All aluminum surfaces are to be deburred and clean of dirt or other debris.
Demonstration
1. Upon completion of the tank, the rearing trough shall be tested for satisfactory operation including deflection testing on at least two (2) units over a period of 48 hours. All equipment shall be adjusted and checked for alignment, levelness, clearances, supports, and adherence to safety standards, until found satisfactory. This work will be performed by the Manufacturer at their facility.
2. A Quality Control checklist shall accompany the completed rearing tank or be sent electronically corresponding with the delivery of the tank reflecting the critical requirements of the specifications.
Completion
1. Tanks to be completed and delivered to the Genoa National Fish Hatchery on or before October 15, 2020.
