This document is a statement of need for prefabricated structural steel braced frames or moment frames. The National Park Service Alaska Region is soliciting bids for four hot-dipped galvanized steel bridge towers to be fabricated in unassembled components and shipped FOB to Skagway, Alaska by October 1, 2023. The steel frames must resist a 12,000 pound lateral load and be made from bolted-together components not exceeding 1,000 pounds individually. Bids shall include stamped engineering drawings, hot-dipped galvanization of welded components, specified steel sizes and grades for beams, angles, bar stock and plate stock, and bolts, nuts and washers for assembly.

Statement of Need
Items identified as base bid are a minimum requirement for this solicitation.
This bid is for four (4) pre‐fabricated structural steel braced frames or moment frames, hot‐dipped galvanized, bolted together with bolted connections in the dimensions and configurations described in the attached drawings. Frames shall be shipped in fabricated, unassembled components to FOB Skagway, Alaska 99840 by 10/1/2023.
Alternate designs for frames are allowable so long as the frames meet the following requirements:
1) Alternate designs must be stamped by a licensed structural engineer.
2) Frames shall be made from bolted‐together components, the maximum weight for any one component is 1,000 lbs.
3) Assembled frames will be bolted to four vertical helical pier/pile cap plates (Not in Contract).
4) Frames shall resist a 12,000 lb lateral load distributed evenly over the face of one short leg end (i.e 10 ft tall x 4’‐3 wide).
In the attached braced frame design:
Steel grade: A36 Components shall be hot‐dipped galvanized after fabrication of component parts, i.e. welds and holes All welds – 3/16” All steel beams are W8x18 All angles are 3”x3”x 5/16” All bar stock is 3‐1/2” or 4” x 5/16”, length varies Plate stock is 12” x 5/16” x 0’ 11‐1/2” Provide 5/8 dia bolts, nuts and washers to fill all holes and to assemble all components.
