The South Fork Crane weed herbicide treatment area consists of hills, mountain slopes, fan remnants, and several drainages which hold intermittent flowing streams. Terrain varies from relatively flat, 5% drainages to steep hills with 10-45% slopes. Soils are a gravelly loam. Elevation ranges from 5,600 to 6,400 feet. Vegetation consists of either a) semi-dense to dense Wyoming sagebrush and rabbitbrush shrublands with mixed perennial bunchgrasses and native forbs or, b) dense Utah juniper and pinyon pine forestlands with an understory of Wyoming sagebrush and mixed, native perennial bunchgrasses and forbs. Annual invasive grasses and annual forbs like desert Alyssum are found throughout the site. Two track roads traverse the project area.

Crane Springs borders the project area to the southwest, and in the event open water is present buffers for non-aquatically formulated herbicides to be 10 feet for application by handgun and 25 feet for application with vehicle mounted boom equipment will be followed. Spraying up to the spring water’s edge (within the buffer) will require use of aquatic formulated herbicide and surfactant.
