1. BACKGROUND

The National Park Service (NPS), Lassen Volcanic National Park (LAVO) has a requirement to update their Archaeological Overview and Assessment and Archaeological Research Design, originally completed in 2005.

2. INTRODUCTION

LAVO had an Archaeological Overview and Assessment (AOA) developed for the park in 2005.

That AOA focused primarily on the park’s prehistoric archaeology. Lassen wishes to expand on the original 2005 “Archaeological Overview and Assessment and Archaeological Research Design, Lassen Volcanic National Park”. Specifically, the AOA needs to be updated to include the historic period. In addition, the AOA needs to be updated with prehistoric information produced since the original AOA was created in 2005.

The expected product is an Archaeological Assessment and Overview for Prehistoric and Historic Archaeology at Lassen Volcanic National Park that can be used by the state and federal agencies to guide archaeological work within the region.

3. SCOPE

The area that will be considered for the overview consists of Lassen Volcanic National Park, California with research that may contribute to understanding the cultural history of the area.

The assessment of archaeology sites and management efforts will focus on those that have been conducted within Lassen Volcanic National Park. Recommendations will also focus on efforts within the National Park.
