About this file

The document is a Salient Characteristics document for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Missoula Field Office outlining requirements for specialized aquatic research equipment. The BLM seeks to acquire two semi-portable aquatic antenna systems designed to detect Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) implants in small, fast-moving fish located in remote streams. The required systems must include solar panel charging systems, battery banks, on-site data loggers with Bluetooth/direct connection capabilities, and be rugged enough to withstand high stream flows and harsh weather conditions for extended periods.

In addition to the antenna systems, BLM requires 12mm full duplex PIT-tags and associated peripheral equipment including implanters and handheld PIT readers. The equipment is specifically intended for fish tracking and monitoring purposes, with a focus on durability and functionality in challenging remote stream environments. The solicitation indicates a need for specialized scientific monitoring technology that can operate autonomously in difficult field conditions.

Salient Characteristics (Brand Name or Equivalent)

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Missoula Field Office is interested in acquiring 2 specialized, semi-portable aquatic antenna systems designed to detect Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) implants in small, fast moving, fish in remote streams. In addition to the antennas, these systems will require solar panel systems to charge a battery bank that will provide power to the PIT-tag system as well as on-site data loggers providing information that can be downloaded to a tablet or computer in the field using Bluetooth or direct connection. This system will need to be rugged and able to withstand high stream flows and inclement weather for long periods of time. BLM also requires 12mm full duplex PIT-tags and associated equipment like implanters and handheld PIT readers.
