About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) issued by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), specifically Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), for defect characterization and statistical modeling related to Large-Scale Laser-Wire Additive Manufacturing (LWAM).
The vendor shall receive all physical LWAM Inconel 625 (IN625) samples and associated raw in-situ monitoring data from NASA and must possess expertise in non-destructive evaluation (NDE), statistical modeling, defect characterization, and in-situ monitoring data integration for additive manufacturing. Key technical deliverables include processing raw multi-modal monitoring signals to extract defect-associated features; tracking samples through preparation and selective sectioning into sub-scale coupons to capture varying defect states; performing high-resolution CT scanning and targeted metallography to validate Lack of Fusion (LOF) defects; developing statistical models to estimate spatial likelihood of defect formation based on extracted monitoring features; and developing Probability of Detection (POD) models aligned with MIL-HDBK-1823A to quantify in-situ monitoring system detection capability. The vendor shall also provide a report detailing recommendations for targeted, monitoring-guided inspection strategies and grant the Government unlimited rights to all data, reports, and algorithms generated. Additionally, the vendor must coordinate with NASA MSFC personnel for peer review and co-authorship on any public documentation or journal articles prior to external publication. The period of performance is approximately six (6) months from contract award initiation. Required deliverables include defect characterization data, processed monitoring-derived feature datasets, spatial defect likelihood and POD models, final test report, technical white paper, and monthly technical and financial status reports. Returned samples shall be shipped to Marshall Space Flight Center, Central Receiving, Building 4631, Huntsville, AL 35812.
