About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA's requirements for a custom containment tent to be used for storing materials in a dark, dry-air environment. The tent must be a freestanding structure with specific dimensional requirements: a main compartment measuring 10' wide x 18' long x 8' high externally (with 8' x 16' x 7' internal dimensions) and an attached 4' x 4' x 7' airlock vestibule. Critical specifications include air-tight seams, air-tight zippers on multiple D-shaped doors, low-permeability material that blocks visible light, and service sleeves for dry air purge systems, measurement instruments, and wiring. The tent must be constructed of soft good materials, withstand foot traffic, and include mounting provisions in both compartment ceilings. NASA requires delivery to the Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia within 120 calendar days of the agreement's effective date, with the tent to be manufactured at the contractor's facility.

STATEMENT OF WORK – Custom Containment Tent

1. Objective/Requirements

NASA is procuring a custom containment tent to store materials in a dark, dry-air environmentz. The contractor shall deliver the tent and documentation as defined below.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

The contractor shall provide a freestanding containment tent with the following requirements:

a. The tent shall not rely on air inflation to maintain its structure.

b. The tent shall have air-tight seams (no Velcro seams).

c. The tent shall have a main compartment with maximum external dimensions of

10’ wide x 18’ long x 8’ high including the support structure. See Figure 1.

d. The main compartment shall have minimum internal dimensions of 8’ wide x 16’ long x 7’ high.

e. The tent main compartment shall have a 6’ wide x 6.5’ high “D-shaped” zippered equipment door centered side to side on the tent face as shown in Figure 1 and as low to the ground as practical.

f. The equipment door shall have means to secure the door flap when opened (tie back loop or similar).

g. In addition to the main compartment volume, the tent shall have an attached airlock vestibule with internal dimensions of 4’ wide x 4’ long x 7’ high as shown in Figure 1.

h. The airlock vestibule shall have air-tight seams with the main compartment.

i. The airlock vestibule shall have a 3’ wide x 6.5’ high exterior “D-shaped” zippered personnel door and an interior “D-shaped” zippered personnel door of the same dimensions leading into the main containment tent. Both personnel doors shall be centered side to side as shown in Figure 1 and as low to the ground as practical.

j. Both zippered personnel doors shall have means to secure the door flap when opened (tie-back loops or similar).

k. All doors shall seal via air-tight zippers.

l. The tent shall only require standard shop tools and equipment to assemble and collapse.

m. The tent material shall have low permeability to air and moisture.

n. The tent floor, walls, and ceiling shall be a soft good material construction

o. The material used for the tent shall block all visible light from an LED light source in a dark room. The contractor shall provide a material sample to the government to be approved prior to fabrication.

p. The tent flooring shall have adequate thickness to withstand foot traffic and material cart handling.

q. The containment tent shall have 2 sets of 4 service sleeves along one side of the tent to allow for a hose connection with a dry air purge system, measurement instruments, and wiring for lights. The service sleeves shall have a diameter of 1” and 2”. See Figure 2 for locations.

r. The airlock vestibule shall have one service sleeve along one side of the tent to allow for a wiring for lights. The service sleeve shall have a diameter of 2”. See

Figure 2 for the location.

s. The tent shall have 4 mounting provisions (e.g. fabric loops) in the interior main compartment ceiling and 1 in the interior airlock vestibule ceiling capable of supporting up to 2 pounds each.

t. Assembly instruction manual shall be provided to the government.

3. Deliverables:

a. Items shall be delivered to

NASA Langley Research Center, Building 1206

(Receiving), 4 South Marvin Street, Hampton, Virginia 23681

4. Place of Performance

Items are manufactured at the Contractor’s facility and delivered to NASA.

5. Period of Performance

Delivery date of no later than 120 calendar days from effective date from agreement.
