About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA Langley Research Center's requirement for Astronautical Development's Shields-1 Ground Station Software Update, Programming, Development, and Testing Professional Services. The SOW outlines three independent service options: (1) downloading Satnogs SHIELD data from a global volunteer ground station network, (2) modifying GNU radio flowgraphs to work with NPS MC3 stations, and (3) upgrading MXL's two UHF ground stations to optimize tracking of SHIELDS satellite frequencies at 400 and 450 MHz. The performance will occur at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA, with a period of performance ranging from 3-12 weeks. The primary objective is to obtain decoded data from the Shields-1 satellite using various technical approaches that enhance data collection and communication capabilities.

STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Objective/Requirements
NASA Langley Research Center requires the purchase of Astronautical Development’s Shields-1 Ground Station Software Update, Programming, Development, and Testing Professional Services. Shields-1 is needed to obtain decoded data from the Shields-1 satellite.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
Options Description
Option 1
Download Satnogs SHILED Data
Satnogs is a global, volunteer ground station network that tracks a variety of cubesats. Satnogs has tracked and decoded SHIELDS over the last few months. MXL extensively utilizes Satnogs passes and data to support our missions. We can extend our tools to schedule Satnogs stations for additional downlinks. We can also download all packets received by Satnogs and send them to the SHIELDS team in the specified format. Please note that, due to the volunteer nature of Satnogs, future passes are not guaranteed. This option is independent of Option 2 and 3.
Option 2
Gnuradio flowgraphs to NSP
MXL has software defined radio systems based on gnuradio flowgraphs that can communicate with SHIELDS. We can modify these flowgraphs to work with NPS MC3 stations. This estimate does not include any potential cost of operating MC3 stations.
This option is independent of Option 1 and 3.
Option 3B
Upgrade MXL station for SHIELDS
MXL has two UHF ground stations capable of tracking SHIELDS. However, the antenna systems are not tuned optimally for SHIELDS frequencies, 400 and 450 MHz., Initial quick tests indicate that the stations can support SHIELDS transmission and receiving in some fashion but fully operational support is to be determined. Upgrading the antennas and amplifiers is also possible to provide better performance. Option 3B upgrades the station to provide full operational capabilities of supporting SHIELDS.
3. Place of Performance
NASA Langley Research Center 1 Nasa Dr Hampton, VA 23666
4. Period of Performance
3-12 weeks
