About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a NASA contract opportunity solicitation number 80NSSC25899649Q for 36-Bay Disk Servers. The Q&A addresses four key technical configuration issues, primarily focused on server memory and storage requirements. The document clarifies that vendors must meet a minimum of 1,152 GBs of memory, with flexibility to supply more or use an equivalent/better CPU. Additionally, the solicitation requires 20 x 18 TB storage capacity, which can be met using a 36-bay NVMe server, and does not require additional networking cables.

The Q&A provides specific technical guidance for vendors, including memory module configuration constraints for different CPU types (EMR and SPR), and confirms that 96 GB memory modules are complex to implement. The document emphasizes that while vendors have some flexibility in meeting the core requirements, they must ensure they meet the minimum specifications for memory and storage capacity. The solicitation is being managed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center, with vendors expected to carefully review and validate their proposed configurations against these technical specifications.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

1. The requested configura on displays an error in the memory module quan es in the Supermicro configurator.

"For 96 GB memory, full popula on is required for SPR. For EMR CPUs, 1, 6, or 8 are applicable."

For the EMR CPU you requested, only 8 96 GB modules are supported.

If you upgrade to an SPR 6448H 4/2P 32C 2.4G 250W CPU, you must configure 16 x 96 GB; no other quan es are supported.

It is the only op on to meet the total memory requirement.

Please validate !!!!

Use 96 GB modules are complicated.

The requirement is for a minimum of 1,152 GBs of memory. Vendors may supply more memory or use an equivalent or be er CPU in their responses.

2. In order to quote you the exact product, request you to please advise on the below query raised by the vendor –

CPU selected will not support 96GB of memory; you will need to change CPU or drop the memory to 64GB, please verify before we can con nue

The requirement is for a minimum of 1,152 GBs of memory. Vendors may supply more memory or use an equivalent or be er CPU in their responses.

3. We’d like to confirm that the customer has the appropriate network cables compa ble with the Broadcom BCM57416 Ethernet 10Gb 2-port BASE-T OCP3 Adapter. Should we include any networking cables?

Cables are not needed.

4. Would an 36 Bay NVMe server meet the requirements for this RFQ?

An NVMe server is acceptable, but the requirement for 20 x 18 TB must be met.
