About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the procurement and installation of a compact, high-energy, pulsed, narrow-linewidth Nd:YAG (1064 nm / 532 nm) laser system that can be directly integrated with a Dye Laser system tunable in the yellow-to-red wavelengths. The SOW specifies detailed technical requirements for the laser system, including compact size and weight, laser energy and repetition rate, narrow linewidth, beam quality, polarization, power stability, cooling requirements, and power supply. It also outlines the requirements for the integrated Dye Laser system, including fundamental energy output, wavelength accuracy, and thermal stability. The place of performance is at the Quantel facility for manufacturing and NASA Langley Research Center for installation. The period of performance is for delivery by January 2025.

The related federal contract opportunity is a sole source procurement by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center (NASA/NSSC) for the New Nd:YAD and Dye Laser System, with the intent to award a contract to LUMIBIRD INC under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i). The solicitation number is 80NSSC24878396Q, and the NAICS code is 541715. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to the identified point of contact by 12 p.m. Central Standard Time on 8/13/2024, which will be evaluated to determine if the procurement should be conducted on a competitive basis.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements Procurement and installation of a compact, high-energy, pulsed, narrow-linewidth Nd:YAG (1064 nm / 532 nm) laser system that can be directly integrated with a Dye Laser system that is tunable in the yellow-to-red wavelengths.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

• Compact and low-weight Nd:YAG laser system with the following specifications:

o Laser head size and weight: within 0.7 m x 0.2 m x 0.2 m and not to exceed 10 kg.

o Integrated cooling and electronics unit: within 0.6 m x 0.6 m x 0.3 m and not to exceed 30 kg.

o Compact and fully integrated second harmonic module: within 0.15 m x 0.15 m x

0.15 m and not to exceed 5 kg.

o Laser energy and repetition rate: 700 mJ at 1064 nm and 340 mJ at 532 nm for 10 Hz repetition-rate.

o Laser pulse duration not to exceed 10 ns for efficient frequency conversion.

o Narrow laser linewidth: ≤ 0.005 cm-1 at 1064 nm with Single Longitudinal Mode

(SLM) option.

o Beam divergence < 0.5 mrad and M2 ≤ 2 at 1064 nm to ensure good beam quality over long propagation distances.

o Spatial profile at 1064 nm > 0.7 in the near-field and > 0.9 in the far-field based on a least square fit to a Gaussian (perfect fit = 1).

o Polarization ratio at 1064 nm > 70% for dye laser pumping and for Rayleigh scattering measurements.

o Pulse-to-pulse energy stability within ±2% at 1064 nm and within ±4% as measured by the peak-to-peak rms of all laser shots.

o Laser power drift within ±3% at 1064 nm and within ±5% at 532 nm, as measured over 8 hours without readjustment of phase-matching for a temperature range of 18°C < T < 28°C.

o Power Requirements: 110V, 60 Hz, single phase.

o Water-to-air cooling for the overall laser system.

o Operating temperatures in the range of at least 18 °C to 28 °C.

o Control software at no additional cost

• Dye laser system that can be fully integrated with pump laser in a manner that minimizes the footprint of the combined system on an optical table and with the following laser specifications:

o Dye laser fundamental energy of at least 110 mJ at 565 nm and 627 nm, while providing a narrow-linewidth fundamental dye laser output <0.06 cm-1 at 570 nm.

o Dye laser fundamental pulse duration not to exceed 10 ns for efficient frequency conversion.

o Beam divergence < 0.5 mrad for fundamental dye laser output to ensure good beam quality over long propagation distances.

o Beam pointing stability < 50 µrad based on a minimum of 200 laser shots.

o Polarization ratio for the dye laser fundamental > 98% for efficient frequency conversion and for Rayleigh scattering measurements.

o Absolute dye laser wavelength accuracy < 0.01 nm, with a wavelength reproducibility of < 0.005 nm, and a wavelength scan linearity < 0.002 nm.

o Thermal stability for the fundamental dye laser output of at least 0.001 nm/C°.

o Amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) < 0.5% at the peak for the fundamental dye laser output.

o Power Requirements: 110V, 60 Hz, single phase.
