About this file

This document is a statement of work for a federal contract opportunity with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center. NASA is seeking to procure a one-year membership in the MIT Sloan School of Management's Innovation Lab for $60,000. The Innovation Lab establishes partnerships between academia, industry and government to apply open innovation research to real-world problems. NASA's participation will provide direct access to new techniques and lessons learned on stimulating innovation, becoming more agile, and efficiently drawing on outside resources for novel organizational approaches. The terms and conditions require the purchase order to be bilateral to allow MIT to review the final terms before signing. Based on technical expertise, the MIT Innovation Lab is the only source that can meet NASA's requirements to exchange information on independent innovation work and processes.

NASA is seeking membership in an open innovation research forum for innovation project experts to exchange information on their independent work on innovation processes of crucial concern to the functioning of their organizations with respect to generating breakthrough innovations and technologies. The MIT Sloan School of Management’s Innovation Lab establishes a partnership among academia, industry, and government organizations providing a unique mechanism for application of Open Innovation research to real-world problems. The lab offers NASA a unique opportunity to interface with and learn from others who are facing the need to be more agile, and to more efficiently draw upon outside resources for ideas regarding novel organizational approaches to innovation. The value to NASA in participating in this forum is derived from the fact these approaches have been tested and are evaluated and discussed in detail by MIT Innovation Lab members and MIT academics with expertise on the topics.

Period of performance: One year from the date of Contracting Officer’s signature

Market Research

Based on my technical knowledge and expertise regarding this industry, the MIT Innovation Lab is the only source that can meet the Government’s requirements. The MIT Sloan School of Management is well recognized as a leader in research into User Innovation and the approach they bring to sharing that research is extremely unique. The MIT Innovation Lab has existed for 23 years, and its design and operation has been proven via a record of major successes in developing highly novel and effective industrial and institutional innovation practices, and for improved academic understanding of highly creative and productive innovation processes.

NASA’s participation in the Lab will provide direct access to new techniques and lessons learned that extend its ability to further stimulate innovation. It enables NASA to become more agile and to more efficiently draw upon outside resources for ideas regarding novel organizational approaches to applying open innovation. This direct interaction of Academic and Corporate Lab member leads to a level of practical implementation of the academic research not available from similar efforts at any other institution. There are no other subscriptions currently available that can deliver the specific value that NASA requires in this area.
