SCaN Goddard Visitor Center Exhibit Exhibit Fabrication Statement of Work Design Requirements for Quote – 03/22/2018

Period of Performance: 6/15/2018 – 9/1/2018 Delivery Date: 7/27/2018

The Space Communications and Navigation Exhibit at the Goddard Visitor Center is a four-panel display incorporating electronic and static elements to showcase and explain the technology of optical communications as well as the legacy of communications in mission support. The design and programming is being completed by NASA; this request is for fabrication only.

Exhibit Basics

• 4 panels; panel labeled #4 will provide access to the interior of the exhibit

• All artwork will be provided for fabrication as camera ready

• A central “power on” should exist to integrate and easily start and end the day

Panel 1 – Making Waves Title Banner

• 42” wide x 10.5” tall

• Edge-lit LED lightly smoked, transparent acrylic

• Etched or laser cut text and layered communication lines

• Easily powered on and off from a central and hidden area behind the display

Light Panel

• 25.5” x 16” area containing 1,702 embedded back-lit acrylic pegs in a grid

• Ability to apply any color in the full led spectrum to each individual peg

• Needs to be networked and computer driven to display updateable and unique messages or pictures to be seen when viewed through a particular lens in the lens deck

• Acrylic pegs would be approximately 1.5” long with .5” projecting out of the display from the base panel

• Acrylic pegs should be replaceable if broken with a minimum of 64 replacement bulbs provided

Lens deck

• 2.5” x 3.5” Hard shelled, tear drop shaped front and back cover

• Contains 5 separate lenses (blue, yellow, red and green and orange)

• Lenses to rotate open from hinge at top of tear shape and close easily

• Lens deck should attach to a cable anchored from behind the display.

• Cable should retract slowly and have the ability to withstand wear and tear.

• Cable and lens deck should be easily replaceable

Text Medallion

• 10.5”diameter full-color text medallion

• Stand 1’ off base panel

• Back-lit in blue

• Substrate suggestions welcome

Base Panel 42”x77” Full-color, MEDEX, Medite II or Cintra or comparable suggested, museum quality substrate

Kick board 42”x2” metal, formica folkstone laminate (sculpted finish) or comparable suggested material

Trigger Camera Kinect sensor camera or contemporary trigger camera for future panel iterations

Panel 2 – Getting Data through the Clouds

• 42” wide x 10.5” tall

• Edge-lit LED lightly smoked, transparent acrylic

• Etched or laser cut text and layered communication lines

• Easily powered on and off from a central and hidden area behind the display

Spacecraft

• 11” x 7.8” Flat, interchangeable, spacecraft with ability to rotate after either interference button or cloud is pushed

Laser (to be recessed behind acrylic within panel)

• To come from spacecraft. Points of origination and arrival must be hidden for safety

• Will rotate with the spacecraft and target 2 destinations.

• Will be triggered from either the push of the cloud or any of the three buttons

• When interference sequence is complete, spacecraft returns to first position

Cloud/Interference

• Cloud and #2 title to pulse in and out of view to suggest interaction

• When either cloud or interference button is pushed, the interference sequence is triggered, rotating the spacecraft to target its second destination

• When second destination is reached, after laser finishes sending mock information, video plays

Video

• From behind a two way black mirror or similar window, after interference sequence completes, an iPad-sized video screen is triggered to play video message (with audio)

• Once message completes video screen turns off and can’t be seen

• Laser and spacecraft reset to original or starting position

Audio

• When audio button is pushed the laser targets the table mountain ground station medallion and message plays

• Audio to come out of hidden speaker

Ground Station Medallions (2)

• 5.5”diameter full-color image medallion

• Stand 1’ off base panel to hide laser destination from view

Base Panel 42” x 77” Full-color, MEDEX, Medite II or Cintra or comparable suggested, museum quality substrate

Kick board 42” x 2” metal, formica folkstone laminate (sculpted finish) or comparable suggested material

Panel 3 – The Communications Connection

• 42” wide x 10.5” tall

• Edge-lit LED lightly smoked, transparent acrylic

• Etched or laser cut text and layered communication lines

• Easily powered on and off from a central and hidden area behind the display

Embedded Touchscreen

• 26” x 47.5” Touchscreen, portrait mounted

• Both wi-fi and network cable available

• Microsoft platform; system must be hardened by NASA IT team. Please contact if further details are needed.

Programming Provided by customer
