Statement of Work: Technical Requirements for New X-ray Inspection System

Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) is looking to purchase one (1) real time x-ray machine to meet failure analysis and Electrical, Electronic, and Electromagnetic (EEE) Parts screening requirements. This system shall have two-dimensional radiographic and three-dimensional tomographic capabilities at the nanoscale level and be the same as or equal to General Electric (GE) part number 20905636. This equipment shall be compatible with hardware and software that is already in use at MSFC. Below are the minimum technical capabilities required for the equipment.

1. Automatic Nanofocus X-ray Inspection System

2. 180 kV minimum Nanofocus X-ray source (open design) with “unlimited” lifetime, including demountable collimator for enhanced image quality

3. Minimum power of 15 watts

4. Air cooled with turbomolecular pump for fast pump down of tube

5. Temperature stabilized detector with active cooling

6. Diamond/Tungsten x-ray tube window

7. Minimum of 4 mode spot sizes from microfocus to nanofocus

8. Filter set

9. Filament set

10. Spare Targets

11. Automatic system start

12. Automatic centering

13. Automatic focusing

14. Automatic target check integrated system control unit

15. Spare part set

16. Anti-vibration system

17. 4” Image Intensifier with 4 MP image chain with minimum 50X50 micron pixel size real time

18. Additional High-contrast|detector GE DXR250RT HCD 200-200 (200 micron by 200 micron resolution) with a minimum 16000 grey scales

19. 2D, 2D oblique, 3D-CT, 4MP image chain and high contrast detector ALL in one unit with a foot print NTE 2.3 m x 2.1 m x 2 m

20. Resolution/detail detectability of 180 kV system down to 200 nm, demonstrated

21. X-ray protection cabinet to meet or exceed <1 micro Sv/h

22. Standard 5-axis manipulation system, including 360° sample rotation and 70° oblique inspection

23. Active anti-collision system

24. System table for 2D and 2D oblique with following features

a. ability to move a minimum of 0.6 m x 0.5 m in X and Y

b. Z axis movement up to collision point

c. Laser detection system for part positioning and collision detection

d. N x 360° rotation of table with count for automatic reset to baseline

e. Geometric magnification >1400

f. Total magnification >15000x

g. Oblique angle moves of detector must maintain highest magnification and center of object

h. Electronic Discharge (ESD) board fixture in table

i. ESD board to mount into fixture for parts screening

j. Minimum sample weight of board fixture 4 Kg

k. Motor operated tilt/rotate unit must be removable to accommodate larger components

l. Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) operated and cable of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) traceable linear movement measurements down to +/- 0.0002” interactive

m. X-ray sample map for navigation

n. automated positioning

o. automated image processing

p. automated X-ray control (tension and current)

q. automated image saving

r. interactive operating mode (good/bad analysis by operator)

s. reference point function (fiducial)

t. programmable load position

25. Software for operation of both 2D, 2D Oblique, and 3D-CT

26. 2D software must include

a. a Ball Grid Array (BGA) module for BGA inspection

b. a voids analysis module for lid seal inspection including calculation of percent, voids, die tilt, die area, and manual drawing of odd shapes

c. a C4 module for automated voiding analysis of C4 bumps

d. a multilayer module for IC multilayer Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) include calculation of layer misalignment, annular ring

e. A Plated Through Hole (PTH) Through Hole Technology (THT) module for PTH analysis

f. Quad Flat Pack No Lead (QFN) module for QFN solder joint analysis

g. Quad Flat Pack (QFP) module for QFP solder joint analysis

h. Report module for customer reporting

i. Image processing including ability to save in multiple image formats such as jpeg, tiff, gif, bmp, and png.

j. Converter program to convert result files into other formats to include a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file, Qualitative Data Analysis Software (Q-DAS), and zip capability

27. Calibration fixtures for 2D, 2D oblique and 3D-CT measurements and resolution

28. VGStudio MAX 3.2 software including all associated modules listed explicitly

29. 3D-CT workstation must utilize Solid State Drive (SSD) and SSD Raid storage with additional hardware and software capabilities

a. Ability for both 2D and 3D plane analysis of complex circuit boards for fast analysis to set up 3D-CT

b. Capable of 512x512x512 voxel reconstruction of 600 projections in less than 10 seconds

c. Capable of 1024x1024x1024 voxel reconstruction of 1000 projections in less than 90 seconds

d. Automatic geometry calibration

e. Selectable beam hardening

f. Ring artifact reduction

g. Croppable ROI reduction

h. Multiscan and multiscan stitching for large samples

i. DICONDE export

j. 2TB of disk storage

k. Minimum of 192 GB main memory

l. 2D and 3D systems internal communicate through a minimum Gigabit-LAN

30. 1 year preventative maintenance with 48 hour response including 4 visits over 1 month to include

a. Cleaning, adjusting and verifying X-Ray tube circuitry. Tube Target (checking, cleaning, rotation)

b. High Tension (HT) Cable (inspection, cleaning, re-greasing, gap/pressure adjustment)

c. Cleaning and verifying Vacuum System Operation

d. Cleaning, adjusting, and verifying HT Generator Operation

e. Verifying Manipulator operation: Manipulation Table (limit checks, offset checks, drives, belts, spindles)

f. Verifying and adjusting CNC operation

g. Verifying Image Chain and flat panel detector

h. Verifying Control Unit

i. Testing and verifying of safety components such as interlock circuits, warning lamps and control circuits

j. Cleaning and verifying detector circuitry as applicable

k. Mains Power Supply (measuring, leakage and system ground test)

l. System performance check

m. Submission of fully accomplished service report by Preventative Maintenance (PM) checklist

n. Technician must be trained on the equipment and use of the software

31. Dose rate data showing dosing over various voltage and current settings
