About this file

This document provides details for an automated sample tube labeling and racking system procurement. The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences seeks to purchase one Sci-Print VX2 2000-0748 benchtop automated sample tube labeler from Scinomix Inc. for $150,000. The labeler must accept bulk sample tubes, apply barcoded labels, and place tubes in racks. It must be expandable for potential liquid handling and fit within automated cell culture systems. Interested parties may respond by February 5, 2024 to indicate capability to fulfill requirements. The award will be made through a non-competitive contract negotiated with the sole-source vendor Scinomix Inc.

PURCHASE DESCRIPTION

1. Statement of Need and Purpose: The purpose of this procurement is to supply our Automated Cell Technologies Team (ACT) with a Fully automated sample tube labeling and racking system to make our daily protocols more efficient and prevent contamination in samples.

2. Background Information and Objective: Our Automated Cell Technologies (ACT) team maintains, expands and cryopreserves hundreds of vials of cells routinely.

Recently the requests for cryopreserving cell lines increased considerably. Team members are spending a lot of time labeling hundreds of cryo-vials (sample tubes) manually. This is not only wasting time for the biologists, but it also creates more chance for contamination in our automated workflows. Having an automated labeling system will save time, increase productivity and quality of the cells and eliminate contamination risk.

This device accepts bulk quantities of sample tubes, applies bar-code/information stickers and places them in appropriate racks for manual manipulation and within automated cell culture systems. This system has capability of handling numerous sample tubes and vials. It is also expandable to accommodate in-system liquid handling, should that need arise. Additionally, the ACT team can provide sample tube labeling service to other groups throughout NCATS.
