PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose:
To more serve the needs of the Laboratory of Clinical Investigation (LCI) and the rest of the institute, a new tissue processor will increase efficiency, but most importantly, it would be instrumental in maintaining specimen integrity. Processing mouse, rat, monkey, and human samples in our current system can lead to all sorts of contamination problems. This new piece of equipment will allow for seamless automated output of samples of the highest quality to meet our histology needs.
2. Background Information and Objective:
Over the last few years, the need for histology equipment at the NIA has dramatically increased. Most labs are doing some sort of tissue processing. We have an older model tissue processor that needs to be replaced. Also, as technology has changed this older model tissue processor will not be supported much longer. The tissue processor is in heavy use within LCI for both animal and human studies.
