Labor Category Labor Category Description Minimum Experience

Bioinformatician I

Duties: Under direct supervision, responsible for the assembly and annotation of genomes from genomic sequence analysis data, using state-of-the art computational tools. Assists with the development of genome analysis pipeline code analysis and development. Aids in the development of research-based data visualizations and reports, under directed supervision. May interact with project stakeholders for the gathering of project priorities and status. Assists with building biological networks and pathways that may help us in greater understanding of biological systems.

Tools and Techniques: Basic understanding of programming languages like Python, R, or Perl.Familiarity with bioinformatics software such as BLAST, FASTA, and ClustalW. Use of statistical analysis tools and basic understanding of machine learning techniques.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Bioinformatician II

Duties: Utilizes state-of-the art computational tools to assemble and annotate genomes from genomic sequence analysis data. Assists with the interpretation of large-scale genomics data from arrays, in relationship with quantitative genetic data and whole genomic sequencing. Assists with Identifying and building biological networks and pathways that may help us in greater understanding of complex biological systems.

Tools and Techniques: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and Perl. Use of advanced bioinformatics software and databases such as Bioconductor, Galaxy, and Ensembl. Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis and interpretation.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Bioinformatician III

Duties: Provides bioinformatics consultancy to a range of science projects and is involved in analyzing high throughput/high-dimensional Omics data from non-model organisms, including but not limited to the design, development, and implementation and testing of bioinformatics pipelines and tools. Has experience in integrating multi-faceted Omics data to facilitate better understanding of underlying systems and biological networks.

Tools and Techniques: Advanced programming skills in Python, R, Perl, and familiarity with other languages like Java or C++. Expertise in using bioinformatics tools for NGS, proteomics, and transcriptomics analysis. Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud-based bioinformatics resources.

Education: Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field. Ph.D. preferred.

Bioinformatician IV

Duties: Provides limited bioinformatics consultancy to a range of science projects and directs/engages in analyzing high throughput/high-dimensional Omics data from complex organisms/environments, leading the design, development, and implementation and testing of bioinformatics pipelines and tools, under limited supervision.

Development of reports and oral presentations related to the integration of multi-faceted Omics data to facilitate better understanding of underlying systems and biological networks. Aids in the identification of external sources of funding and may develop proposals for securing external funding based on institutional scientific research opportunities.

Represents the organization at national and international scientific meetings and presents current findings. Aids in the preparation and publication of original research papers and authoritative reviews.

Tools and Techniques: Mastery in programming languages and bioinformatics software. Expertise in multi-omics data integration and analysis. Proficient in developing custom bioinformatics tools and databases.

Education: Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Bioinformatician V

Duties: Provides expert consultancy for strategic planning for design and implementation of processes to enhance bioinformatics capability of organizations. Manages and oversees a wide range of science projects that require bioinformatic analysis. Develops and implements new tools for analyzing high throughput/high-dimensional Omics data from non-model organisms, including but not limited to the design, development, and implementation and testing of bioinformatics pipelines and tools. Regarded as an expert in integrating multi- faceted Omics data to facilitate better understanding of underlying systems and biological networks. Responsible for the identification of external sources of funding and development of proposals for securing external funding based on institutional scientific research opportunities.

Represents the organization at national and international scientific meetings and presents current findings. Prepares and publishes original research papers and authoritative reviews.

Tools and Techniques: Expert-level proficiency in multiple programming languages and bioinformatics platforms. Deep knowledge of cutting-edge bioinformatics techniques and technologies.

Strong background in statistical analysis, machine learning, and data visualization.

Education: Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Biologist I

Duties: Conducts basic laboratory tasks such as sample preparation, data entry, and literature reviews. Assists senior biologists in conducting experiments and analyzing data. Participates in routine laboratory maintenance and quality control activities.

Tools and Techniques: Pipettes and microscope. Basic laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuges, spectrophotometers). Data entry software (e.g., Excel, laboratory information management systems).

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field

Biologist II

Duties: Conducts experiments and analyzes data under supervision.

Assists in study design, protocol development, and data interpretation.

Participates in collaborative research projects and contributes to scientific publications.

Tools and Techniques: Advanced laboratory equipment (e.g., PCR machines, flow cytometers). Cell culture techniques. Molecular biology techniques (e.g., gel electrophoresis, Western blotting).

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field

Biologist III

Duties: Independently conducts experiments, troubleshoots technical issues, and interprets results. Contributes to the design and implementation of research studies. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and mentors junior staff.

Tools and Techniques: Advanced molecular biology and biochemistry techniques. Statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SPSS). Project management software.

Education: Master’s degree in Biology or a related field

Biologist IV

Duties: Leads research projects, designs experimental protocols, and analyzes complex data sets. Guides scientific methodologies and contributes to the development of research proposals. Mentors junior scientists and collaborates with external partners.

Tools and Techniques: Next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies Bioinformatics tools and databases. Advanced statistical analysis and data visualization software.

Education : Master's degree in Biology or a related field

Biologist V

Duties: Serves as a principal investigator and subject matter expert on complex biological research studies. Conceives, proposes, plans, leads, and conducts investigations in basic and applied research projects.

Provides technical assistance to other scientists, prepares scientific manuscripts/reports for publication, and leads scientific teams to conduct studies with significant technological advances. Identifies external funding sources, represents the organization at scientific meetings, and publishes original research papers and authoritative reviews. May participate in leadership roles within scientific societies and trade groups.
