aLanguageBank staff and all contractors working with us are required to sign strict confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements before being permitted to receive any work from our company. These are binding agreements that ensure that all materials received in our service to you will be treated with the utmost discretion. Also, our websites and platforms use the same level of encryption as online banking institutions. Both on and offline, we take every precaution to ensure the safety of your data.
TECHNOLOGY
Each of aLB’s clients will receive a password-protected login to access our cloud-based project management system in order to initiate and track respective assignments, once they are approved. The following graphic shows a sample interface of our project management system, allowing for real-time monitoring of the project progress. This system will also generate corresponding reports and data analysis based on the information captured and retained for each project.

GSA SERVICE DEFINITION
Services include translating written material, interpreting speech from one language to another, and services to facilitate communication with and by persons who are visually or hearing impaired. Services provided must include communication from a source language to a target language.
SERVICES DESCRIPTIONS
Labor Category - Translator Contracted translators convert written text from one language to another, based on a thorough understanding of the source language and native-fluency understanding of the target language. They will also use resource and reference materials that may or may not be provided by the client in their process. Translators must have a Bachelor’s degree, and at least three (3) years of experience providing the same or equivalent services. Additional requirements and certifications may be added to individual task orders at the request of the purchasing agent or organization, by BPA or other direct contract, or if aLanguageBank staff deem it necessary.
Service Descriptions - Translation Translation - Converting written text from one language to another, keeping the same information, style, and tone
Editing - A new linguist reviews a translation, checking for technical errors and accuracy, while improving the overall style and flow
Layout Proofreading - A new linguist reviews a translation already in a graphic format or design, checking for technical errors in the desktop publishing process
Copywriting - Using a set of communication guidelines to create original text directly in a target language, which allows native sentence structure, style, literary nuance, and cultural reference
Desktop Publishing (DTP) / Formatting - Using a template or source to place text in any language into a graphic design or specific format
Graphic Design - Creation or construction of images and/or layouts
Glossary Development - Before translation, construction of a customized database of preferred translations for certain terms
Translation Memory Management - Maintenance of client-specific translation memory assets, used to store previously approved translation material
Transcription (Monolingual) - Converting audio recordings in a language to written text in the same language.
Transcription with Translation - Converting audio recordings in one language to written text in another language. The linguists who are responsible for the tasks will be native speakers of the source language(s) with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree to render the services. Translators would also have at least three (3) years of experience providing the same or equivalent services. Additional requirements and certifications may be added (such as security clearance, citizenship or court certification) to individual task orders at the request of the purchasing agent or organization, by BPA or other direct contract, or if aLanguageBank staff deem it necessary.
Summarization/Linguistic Analysis - Writing short descriptions or summaries for audio or video files recorded in a foreign langue to English
Project Coordination – Secure and coordinate with the independent contractors to confirm their qualifications, availability and delivery schedule by working with the project managers to meet the project schedule. A project coordinator needs to be familiar with the computer assisted technology (CAT) we utilize in-house to serve as the liaison between the client-facing project managers and the independent contractors.
File Preparation – To prepare a file and ensure it will be “print ready” to meet the file format guidelines. All files that are not “print ready” may require prepress manipulation or alteration and may be subject to a graphic design charge.
Project Management - Project management is the process of leading the work of a team to achieve all project goals within the given constraints. A project manager would have a bachelor’s degree and two years working experience in the language industry to serve as the point person to the clients.

Service Descriptions – Interpretation Labor Category – Interpreter Contracted interpreters convert spoken speech back and forth between two languages, subsequent to or concurrent with each speaker for whom they are interpreting. With a thorough understanding of both languages, interpreters also may be asked to prepare before an assignment by reviewing resource or reference materials that may or may not be provided by the client. Simultaneous On-Site Interpretation - Converting spoken speech back and forth between two languages, at the same time as the client speaks
Consecutive On-Site Interpretation - Converting spoken speech back and forth between two languages, immediately after each client speaks and pauses briefly for the interpreter
On-Demand Over-the-Phone Interpretation (OPI) Services - Consecutive interpretation which occurs on the telephone when a client calls in for direct immediate connection to an interpreter
Pre-Scheduled Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) Services - Consecutive or simultaneous interpretation services rendered via video conference for on-demand appointments
American Sign Language (ASL) - Person fluent in American Sign Language and/or Signed English to facilitate communication between individuals who are Deaf or Hard of hearing, and hearing individuals via video conference or on site. ASL interpreter must be either a member of Registry of the Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or National Association of the Deaf (NAD). Certified interpreters will be available for legal and medical settings when requested/specified by the client.
Court Certified Interpreter (foreign language) – a certified interpreter is an interpreter who has passed a valid and reliable certification exam administered by an independent entity such as the National Center for State Courts. Most of the court certified interpreters are compensated based on half day (4 working hours) or full day (8 working hours) instead of hourly rate.

Additional Pricing Information
FOR TRANSLATION SERVICES
Word Counts All per word Translation rates are based on the English word count.
Rush Charge The rush surcharge is 30% of the agreed price list. Rush surcharges may be applied for each request for services under MAS where the turnaround for translation services exceeds 2,000 total source words per business day.
Rush charge is applicable for translation related services such as editing (review more than 8,000 words per day), copywriting, proofreading, desktop publishing and graphic design when the requested turnaround time is less than 24 hours.
Interpretation services (on-demand OPI excluded) requested within 48 hours of scheduled coverage would incur a 30% rush charge.
Transcription and summary services delivered within 24 hours upon request could incur additional 30% rush charge.
FOR INTERPRETATION SERVICES
Minimum for Interpretation Services The minimum requirement for any on-site interpretation assignment is two (2) hours.
Travel If necessary, travel expenses, accommodations, and per diem expense will be charged to the client in accordance with FAR.
Simultaneous Teams Due to the demanding nature of Simultaneous Interpretation, all assignments will require a team of no less than two (2) interpreters.
Equipment All equipment rental expenses related to Simultaneous Interpretation including shipping are not included in price and are to be coordinated at the order level.
Minimum for OPI/VRI Services Minimum requirements for of on-demand OPI/VRI services is 15 min for each call or $100 per month (if ordered on monthly basis). Minimum requirement for prescheduled OPI and VRI services is one (1) hour per call or $100.00 per month (whichever is higher).
