STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements This work provides for the development and execution of a Hackweek, focused on Cryospheric Science Applications of ICESat-2 to be conducted in early 2022.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

The contractor shall perform the following duties:

1. Plan event and procure hosting facilities for the ICESat-2 Hackweek (hereafter (IS2HW)

2. Complete a long-term follow-on survey of past participants to inform event design

3. Finish assembling the planning and leadership teams; invite and select instructors

4. Advertise event; select candidates based on submitted registration materials

5. Organize virtual coding sprints prior to the event to expand relevant code infrastructure that enables easier collaborative coding during the event

6. Set up cloud-based IT infrastructure and a website for the event

7. Organize travel for participants and instructors

8. Execute IS2HW

9. Collate and share knowledge and tools developed during IS2HW for public access

10. Collect post-event surveys (immediately and after ~6 months)

11. Plan and host informal, virtual follow-on events to provide additional mentoring, training, community building, and software hacking opportunities to foster ongoing curation and contributions to ICESat-2 computational resources

12. Promote Hackweeks as a resource for advancing NASA Earth System research goals through articles and presentations

3. Place of Performance The University of Washington eScience Institute, Seattle, WA

4. Period of Performance 1 October 2021 through 31 May 2022.
