About this file
This amendment provides clarification to an invitation for quotations for chiller rental services. The Department of Veterans Affairs requires rental of a 100-ton air-cooled chiller for one year at its Polytrauma & Rehabilitation Center located in San Antonio, Texas. The solicitation number is 36C25724Q0428, with responses due by 12:00pm CDT on March 14, 2024. This amendment answers ten questions about the chiller specifications, existing site voltages and connections, transformer sizing requirements, and clarifies that hose and cable lengths of 100 feet are needed. It also notes that voltage at the site is 240V 3-phase and the existing chiller requires 480V, so a 75kVA transformer would be used to step up the voltage. Product or service requirements, response dates, and agency information are included while excluding unnecessary legal language or questions for clarity.

Questions and Answers
Chiller Rental for PTRP
RFQ 36C25724Q0428 Amendment 0001
Q1. Is the end-user requesting a water- or air-cooled unit?
A1. The end-user is requesting air-cooled unit.
Q2. What size transformer is being requested?
A2. The transformer should be 75kVA.
Q3. What voltage & phasing do you have on-site?
A3. The site has 240volt 3 phase.
Q4. What are the hose lengths needed? (I only see qty)
A4. The hose length needed is 100 feet.
Q5. What are the cable lengths? (I only see qty)
A5. The cable lengths are 100 feet per run.
Q6. What size/type hose connections do you have on your building?
A6. The building has 3” connections.
Q7. Is the transformer needed to do 480v-208v? Assume it is as all chillers are 480v?
A7. This will depend on the type of chiller that is ordered, if it requires 208, 240 or 480 volts.
Voltage at PTRP is PTRP is 240 voltage 3 phase, the existing portable chiller requires 480 volt to operate. This is why we are using a 75KVA transformer and wiring it “backwards”. Currently the XFMR is 75KVA, line side is 240 volts which produces 480 on the secondary side of the XFMR. If the new portable chiller only requires 240 volts then NO XFMR is required.
Q8. How much hose is needed? It just says 4 pieces but doesn’t say if each piece is 10ft, 25ft or 50ft?
A8. The hose length needed is 100 feet.
Q9. We need to know the kVA size of the transformer being requested and the primary and secondary voltage needed.
Q10. Our unit calls for only 4 Female Camlock Pigtails. Is there a specific need for an additional 7 Female Camlock Pigtails?
A.10. The number of Camlock Pigtails will depend on set-up you are proposing. The items listed is what’s being used with the current chiller rental.
