Tammy L. Wilson Contracting Officer RFI’s and Answers - 36C25720Q0939

1. Are other non-corrosive materials - rather than fiberglass extruded - acceptable for the walking surfaces?

Ans: Other types of non-corrosive materials are acceptable for the walking surfaces such as galvanized steel and etc.

2. What is stored in the fuel tanks near the cooling tower?

Ans: Diesel fuel and Brine chemicals

3. Is it acceptable to remove fence paneling behind the cooling tower to allow equipment accessibility for platform installation?

Ans: Yes, and the fence must be put back the same way it was when removed by contractor.

4. Is there any danger of damaging the cooling tower's functionality if welding is conducted on the tower while in operation?

Ans: There should not be a probably when welding on the tower while in operation.

5. Do you need single or double platform?

Ans: Double platform on both sides, upper and lower level platform.

6. Do you need 1 platform on one side? or 1 platform on each side (total 2 platforms)?

Ans: See #7 for Reference

7. The specs, in item 1 of the base bid, new work, call for 2 access platforms, one on each side of the cooling tower. Item 2 calls for an upper and a lower platform on each side, i.e. 4 platforms. Which is correct 2 or 4?

ANS: There should be 4 catwalk platforms. 1 lower platform on each side and 1 upper platform on each which is a total of 4. The platforms should be level with the basins of each cooling tower.

8. Item 3 of the work states that the platform be fabricated out of non-corrosive FRP Fiberglass and include and extruded grating system with non-skid surface. From a cost situation, we would like to propose galvanized structural steel for these platforms and gratings.

Ans: Yes, galvanized structural steel is okay for this project.

9. The new safety platforms are to be attached to the existing cooling tower structure. Can we obtain design documents for the existing structure to validate our design of the new platforms?

Ans: We do not have design documents for this. See Answer to #10

10. Item 1 on page 5 of 38 calls for Engineered Stamped Drawings to be submitted. Please verify that this is required.

Ans: Yes, Engineered Stamped Drawings must be submitted when performing this project ,it is required and must be turned into Waco Engineering Department for review.

This amendment is to extend RFI’s and closing dates.
