B.2 STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)

a) SCOPE: Contractor is required to furnish all reagents for Biomerieux VIDAS 3 Analyzer System for the Microbiology Department at the Michael E DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC), 2002 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, Texas 77030. The Microbiology Department at the MEDVAMC owns Biomerieux VIDAS 3 Analyzer System. The contract is needed for five (5) each ordering year periods (5ea – 12-month periods) for a Biomerieux VIDAS 3 Analyzer System. The Contractor is providing reagents off a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) performed daily at the facility.

b) BACKGROUND: The Microbiology Department at the MEDVAMC owns the Biomerieux VIDAS 3 Analyzer System to provide Procalcitonin (PCT) and Nephrocheck results as an aid in the risk assessment of critically ill patients for the progression to severe sepsis and septic shock. Additionally, the PCT and Nephrocheck result aids in decision making on antibiotic therapy and identify kidney stress before damage occurs for patients with suspected or confirmed lower respiratory tract infections and acute kidney injury in an inpatient setting and/or in the emergency department. It aids in the decision making on antibiotic discontinuation for patients with suspected or confirmed sepsis and it has been proven that PCT levels can increase quickly, specifically in patients with a serious bacterial infection.

Nephrocheck aids in the risk assessment of acute kidney injury and allow physicians to make confident patient management decisions. PCT and Nephrocheck is therefore an important marker enabling differentiation between bacterial infection and other causes of inflammatory reactions.

c) PERIOD OF ORDERING:

ii. Ordering Period Year 2: 12 months

iii. Ordering Period Year 3: 12 months
