1. General:

This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR subpart 12.6 as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This notice constitutes the only solicitation; quotations are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. The solicitation number is 36C25020Q0032 and is issued as a Request for Quote (RFQ). This solicitation document incorporates provisions and clauses are those in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular (FAC) 2020-01, effective November 12, 2019. The applicable North American Industry Classification System Code (NAICS) is 333314 and the small business size standard is 500 employees.

2. Line items:

1 EA Microscope that includes all the Technical Characteristics indicated in paragraph 3 of the technical characteristics.

3. Technical Characteristics:

The Laboratory is interested in purchasing a Multi-photon Microscope system (for 2- and 3-Photon imaging) for real-time imaging of fluorescent samples, built on a confocal microscope platform. The Microscope must be able to image live animals (for 2- and 3-Photon imaging), during both awake and anesthetized measurements of electro-physiological activity and while performing motor tasks. The leading application is brain tissue response to injury or device implantation.

· Microscope stand – System shall include

· Fully automated upright microscope

· Motorized stage optimized for imaging of live animals, fixed tissue, or live cells

· Air table, providing flexibility for experimental space requirements, with laser safety housing to create safe working environment

· Objectives –

· At minimum, 5x and 25x objective, both immersion and dry.

· Working distance for dry objectives shall reach >6 mm with transmission out to at least 1000 nm

· Working distances for 25x water emersion objectives shall reach at least 2.5 mm with transmission out to 1300 nm

· Additional 25x objectives for use with oil, water, or glycerol shall reach at least 6 mm WD, and be compatible with CLARITY techniques with transmission out to 1300 nm

· At least two objectives for single photon imaging and at least 2 objectives for multiphoton imaging (allowable to use the same objective for single and multiphoton imaging)

· Lasers –

· Visible lasers: 488 nm, 552 nm, 638 nm

· System should be user-friendly for novice users, as close to turn-key and/or self-aligning the better

· IR lasers: configured for use with the InSight X3 Dual from Spectra Physics (680 – 1300 nm tunable line and 1045 nm fixed line) for 2- and 3-Photon imaging, or comparable laser

· Scan Head –

· Scan optics with transmission out to at least 1300 nm

· Scanning compatible with quantitative assessment of tissue fluorescence

· Scanner with maximal frame resolution of 8192 x 8192

· Capable of detecting at least 4 channels simultaneously (shall enable imaging beyond 4 colors)

· Motor testing while imaging –

· Neurotar Mobile Cage included in purchase price.

· System would allow for one to perform precise optical and electrophysiological techniques such as multi-photon imaging and electrophysiology measurements in the brain of non-anesthetized, head-fixed and naturally behaving mice. The motion tracker shall collect and display in real time actionable data about the mouse’s movement trajectory and speed and controls the external devices in closed-loop experiments. Motion tracking shall allow for integrating behavioral readouts with high-precision tests that require head-fixation.

· Upgradability – The system shall be capable of both 2 and 3 photon imaging, expandable to longer wavelength detection as technology matures.

· Built on a Confocal Microscope platform – The microscope system shall be built on a confocal microscope platform, to allow for confocal microscopy of explanted tissue using Clarity objectives.

· Support Structure – In addition to the local account manager and confocal/ Multi-Photon sales specialist, there shall be a confocal/ Multi-Photon application specialist available for scheduled onsite and remote assistance and training as needed, offering continued support throughout the life of the microscope. There shall also be a team available to answer immediate questions and for remote troubleshooting through a support line, Monday through Friday, 8 AM – 8 PM Eastern Time.
