RFI QUESTIONS.

1. Will the VA consider changing the NAICS CODE from 238290 to 236220 due to the extensive nature of the scope of work?

Answer: NAICS has been change from 238290 to 236220

2. The frames and doors will require more than just a simple replacement. The current frames our poured solid with concrete which will require the structural frames to be supported during the demolition process. In addition, there is asbestos containing material in the hallways (located in the flooring and fireproofing) which will require the areas to be contained to protect the staff, patients, and contractors. Finally, since the project will have multiple trades, a field supervisor (GC) will be needed for proper coordination with subcontractors & staff.

Answer: True, the areas surrounding the Door and frames (ceiling and floors) contain Asbestos. We are expecting contractor to use proper Containment, neg Air and HEPA machines to control dust.

The COR will want a designated person to speak with about the project daily

3. Normal business hours install/tear out or weekend/after hours? Opening will be completely shut down for a minimum of 10 hours with no foot traffic.

Answer: Normal workdays are Monday through Friday, First Shift: 8:00am to 5:00pm to include weekends and Federal Holidays. Contractor shall perform all work during first & second shifts to include weekends, when possible, but shall perform any work that will affect patient care systems during times that will be the least disruptive (WHEN hours) when required by the COR.

4. Can the bid due date be extended?

Answer: YES, Extended to Sept 2nd at 4pm

5. Please confirm that the new door frames will need to be poured in place.

Answer: Not sure where else you will pour them. They will need to be sloshed and made solid.

6. Do the new door frames and doors need to be fire rated?

Answer: No

7. Will access control need to be tied into the new doors?

Answer: Yes

8. Will fire alarm need to be tied into the new doors?

Answer: I believe the Mag lock disengage when alarm goes off

9. The existing doors have electrified panic hardware, will the new doors be required to have electrified panic hardware?

Answer: Yes

10. Will the new doors require power supplies for the new exit devices?

Answer: The current doors are powered at the door

11. What are the intended exit devices for the new door operators?

Answer: PIV readers and Paddles

12. Will it be acceptable to provide comparable operators to the Record 8100 series?

Answer: Needs to be of equal quality

13. Will the new doors require kick plates or industrial teardrop door bumpers?

Answer: Yes

14. Will new Mag Locks need to be provided?

Answer: All new hardware and devices. Government may want to keep some of the hardware and will ask for in the Kickoff meeting.

Opening 1-G-2C – West Side

15. Is the existing power supply for the exit devices being reused? Do we need to provide a new power supply?

Answer: Reused

16. Existing opening has maglocks. Are we replacing them or reusing the existing or are the exit devices going to be the sole locking mechanism?

Answer: All new hardware and devices. Government may want to keep some of the hardware and will talk about it at time of Kick off meeting.

17. Existing exit devices are “less bottom rod”. Part number in bid spec shows top and bottom rod exit devices. Are we to assume you need top and bottom rods?

Answer: Yes, Top and Bottom rods

18. Are the existing activation devices being reused?

Answer: Yes

19. Is the existing air curtain being reused?

Answer: All new

20. What type of glazing needs to be used in the vision kits on the doors?

Answer: Tempered glass will be used; Size of window will change to 6” x 27” (see COR note Below)

Kitchen Loading Dock – 1-G-2D

21. Existing opening is in-swing. Will the new doors also be in-swing, or will you make them outswing to comply with life safety codes?

Answer: Change door to Out swing Since we are changing the swing of the Kitchen door, we will want to add the Panic devices.

23. Existing opening has maglocks. Are we replacing them or reusing the existing? Will the existing power supply be re-used or do we provide new?

Answer: All New

24. Why do we need Von Duprin power transfers? There are no electric/mechanical locking exit devices on this opening.

Answer: See COR Note below

25. Are we reusing the deadlock? There is no locking mechanism specified.

Answer: The New door will need to be secure in a like manner along with the Maglocks

26. Is the existing air curtain being reused?

Answer: All New

27. What type of glazing needs to be used in the vision kits on the doors?

Answer: Tempered glass will be used; Size of window will change to 6” x 27” (see COR note Below)
