Salient Characteristics

GI-BRONCH Mentor – Salient Characteristics

GI-Bronch Mentor Specific:

• Simulator must offer more than 120 tasks and cases combined, to include diagnostic and therapeutic treatment procedures include Colonoscopy, EGD, Emergency Bleeding Situations, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, ERCP and EUS.

• GI portion of the simulator must offer an EUS Module (Endoscopic Ultrasound)

• Must offer flexible endoscopy skill building exercises which include Endo-Basket and Endo-Bubble modules.

• Simulator must allow each tool to be used anytime throughout a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure

• Simulator must be the same simulator that is used by SAGES - Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons for FES (Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery) testing.

• Simulator must use authentic Flexible GI Endoscopes, Duodenoscopes, Bronchoscopes, syringe and EBUS Needle which were modified so that the computer recognizes the movements in real time and is used for simulation tracking.

• Simulator that provides an unrestricted clinical environment for all clinical cases.

In this training environment the trainee inspects, analyzes, diagnoses and acts according to his clinical discretion with all relevant tools at his disposal. Thus, the educational opportunity to consider alternatives, or even to err without consequences, complements the acquired clinical experience.

• Simulator must offer online curriculum management system for managing training and education needs. This curriculum management system allows administrative tasks of running a training course or workshop. The system includes a library of ready-to-use simulator based courses and a platform to design new training courses. Courses include online didactic content, proficiency based hands-on training and performance review and assessment.

• Simulator must be endorsed by AABIP (American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology)

• Simulator must provide step-by-step procedural tasks for forceps biopsy, brush sampling, conventional TBNA and EBUS-TBNA.

• The Bronchoscopy portion of the simulator must offer adult foreign body scenarios, pediatric foreign body scenarios, linear and radial EBUS, including an authentic Olympus (manufacturer) needle

• The Bronchoscopy portion of the simulator must all for selection of moderate sedation or general anesthesia for advanced modules, to best fit each clinical facility setup.

• The Bronchoscopy portion of the simulator must allow selection of working through an ET tube or a rigid bronchoscope, in scenarios where it is relevant.

• The Bronchoscopy portion of the simulator must offer The CHEST Standardized Curriculum, where cognitive knowledge and clinical decision making are seamlessly combined with hands-on practice, to be challenged and assessed as one continuous workflow.
