Sharps Management Service

Using Bio Systems Reusable Containers

PRODUCT GUIDE

SOLUTION

Stericycle Sharps Management Service

Stericycle Sharps Management Service has successfully provided safe, environmentally friendly and cost-effective sharps management services to major medical facilities since 1986. The Stericycle Sharps Management Service is a proactive service that helps you improve employee safety and control the cost of doing business while you protect and preserve the environment.

Safe handling and transportation of all Bio Systems reusable containers is part of this full service/turnkey offering. Our container’s puncture resistance is approximately 2.5 times the ASTM puncture standard requirement. All containers are capped or closed prior to transport. Once at our processing facility, lids are removed robotically with state-of-the-art automated equipment and appropriately disinfected.

IF NEEDLESTICKS ARE A PROBLEM, WE HAVE THE SOLUTION…

OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration)

The current Federal standard for addressing needlestick injuries among healthcare workers is the OSHA bloodborne pathogens standard, 29 CFR

1910.1030. The standard applies to all occupational exposures to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Notable elements of this standard require that compliance with universal precautions (an infection control principle that treats all human blood and other potentially infectious materials as infectious) and implementation of engineering controls and work practices to eliminate or minimize worker exposure.

SOLUTION We’ve diverted 100 million disposable containers from landfills.

One reusable Bio Systems container replaces 600 disposable sharps containers. Longer container life cycles = more uses, less energy consumed, and less waste.

A snapshot of Stericycle’s tangible results and sustainable benefits for hospitals:

100,000,000 containers diverted from landfills

100% sustained reduction in needlesticks*

Millions of containers successfully tracked

9,000 tons of cardboard boxes diverted from landfills

122,000 tons of waste reduced

More than 30 square miles of green space saved

* Based on an independent national study.

FDA (Food & Drug Administration)

Sharps containers are regulated as Class II Medical

Devices (21 CFR 880.5570) by the Food & Drug

Administration (FDA). The OSHA standard, 1910.1030(d)

(4)(iii)(A), requires that contaminated sharps be discarded immediately or as soon as feasible in containers that are:

• Closeable

• Puncture resistant

• Leakproof on the sides and bottom

• Affixed with the appropriate warning labels

Our comprehensive offering of containers, lids and brackets allows us to meet the needs of every department. We help you select the appropriate container size, lid type, cabinet, bracket or base.

BIO SYSTEMS

CONTAINER OPTIONS

8 Gallon Container Code # C-08-2004LR

For increased capacity, the 8 gallon container is utilized in intensive care, pharmacies, labs and the ED.

2 , 3 & 4 Gallon Containers Code # C-02RES-0203, C-03RES-0203, C-04RES-04

Our 2, 3 & 4 gallon containers are appropriate for patient rooms and medication areas where security and convenience are critical. The fill line and contents are readily visible through the container’s large window.

17 Gallon Container Code # C-17

The 17 gallon container is appropriate for the OR, ED and labs where a higher volume of sharps waste is generated.

Since 2005, every day of the working week a customer has switched from disposable containers to the integrated approach of the Stericycle

Reusable Container System.

Go for the Green.

BIO SYSTEMS LID OPTIONS

Horizontal Drop Lid Code # 04HORZ-2007

The Horizontal drop lid has been designed to easily activate with a small 1cc syringe but this versatile design can also accommodate a syringe as large as 60 cc’s. The horizontal lid also incorporates safety/engineering controls that include limited access to the contents of the container. This lid is perfect when space constraints do not allow sufficient room for a vertical drop.

Trap Top Lid Code # 08-TT-2004

Trap top lid accommodates large sharps or devices.

The trap top lid can be kept closed when the container is not in use to reduce exposure. Can be used with wire step-on dolly.

Hamper Top Lid Code # LH-17

The hamper top lid has been designed for easy operation and can accommodate large sharps and medical devices. When the lid is raised, it provides an opening of 12 inches by 8.5 inches. Easy closure allows reduced exposure to potentially hazardous materials.

Used with the wire step-on dolly.

Vertical Drop Lid Code # 0203LIDX

Vertical drop lid allows for simple, single-handed disposal of sharps. A puncture resistant cap is inserted into the opening to secure the contents for transport. The vertical drop lid handles a wide variety of sharps (including butterflies).

CABINET, BRACKET OR BASE OPTIONS

4 Gallon Locking Wire Wall Bracket Code # WB-04

An alternative offering to the Locking Wall Cabinet, the 4 gallon locking wire wall bracket is constructed of durable powder coated steel and can be utilized for areas with limited or obstructed wall space.

Countertop Stability Base Code # 0203SB

To free up valuable wall space, our durable resin countertop stability base affixes a 2 or 3 gallon container to any flat, stable surface. The base can be attached to the surface with semi-permanent adhesive strips or screws.

Locking Wall Cabinet Code # OC-02-2004, OC-03-2004, OC-04-2004

The locking wall cabinet allows a 2, 3 or 4 gallon container to be completely enclosed and secure. As an added safety feature, the key can not be removed unless the cabinet door is locked.

Locking Wall Mount Code # 0203WMA

The locking wall bracket mounts to any vertical surface and accommodates the 2 or 3 gallon container.

Wire Step-On Dolly

Code # DWS-08, DWS-17, DWSH-17

For mobility and hands-free operation with the 8 or 17 gallon containers, push down on the step-on pedal of the wire dolly and the lid will open and close automatically.

Wire Dolly Code # D-08

Constructed of a durable powder-coated steel, the wire dollyallows the 8 gallon container to be moved from one location to another.

Wire Wall Bracket Code # WB-08

The locking wire wall bracket, constructed of a durable powder-coated steel, allows the 8 gallon container to be mounted to any vertical surface.

Black Dolly Code # D-17

Made of high density plastic, the 17 gallon black dolly makes mobility easy for the 17 gallon container. Wheels on this dolly make it ideal for ED, labs and OR where mobility is important.
