About this file

This document is an amendment to a solicitation for playground equipment. The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking quotes to provide and install playground equipment and safety surfacing at a site measuring approximately 34 feet by 20 feet 8 inches. Quotes are now due by 1:00 PM on January 12, 2024, extended from the original due date. The amendment provides responses to four questions from offerors seeking clarification on the site area, existing safety surfacing, and ability to extend the response timeframe. No new safety surfacing will be required beyond repairs to the existing material. An AutoCAD file of the site will be provided to the awardee.

36C24424Q0194 – PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT

QUESTIONS AND GOVERNMENT RESPONSES

1. Q: Language on the site plan is cut off. In red it says “Concrete curb…” After that the right side is cut off and no text is legible on the left side.

GOVERNMENT RESPONSE: The text left on the drawings was from a previous construction project in that area. That text has no relevance on the playground equipment.

2. Q: Maximum area for install is 27’ x 18’. Is that the “use zone”? If so that only leaves 15’ x

6’ for the actual size of the play equipment. Is that what you have in mind? The site plan appears to have an irregularly shaped area of 34’ x 20’8” available for the play equipment.

We need from you an Autodcad .dwg drawing to be able to drop our play equipment into the site.

GOVERNMENT RESPONSE: The area available for actual equipment is the 34’ x 20’8” irregular shaped area on the drawing. Approximately 27’x18’ is the estimated usable area due to the irregular shape. The equipment can encompass this entire area. An AutoCAD drawing will be provided upon award.

Q: Is there concrete under the artificial turf? If so we would have to surface-mount the play equipment to the concrete and install the safety surface over the concrete. If the base is dirt or compacted stone, we will have to excavate to install the safety surfacing system.

GOVERNMENT RESPONSE: Detail drawings were provided in the solicitation for the current turf and rubber sidewalk surface. No new safety surface should be required, other than any repairs to the existing safety surface due to disruption by the installer.

3. Q: Other than the drawings, I do not see reference to the safety surfacing in the SON. Are we to quote it and Is it to be artificial turf or poured in place rubber?

GOVERNMENT RESPONSE: The safety surface is existing. Both detail drawings and pictures are provided in the solicitation.

4. Most of our staff is off this week. This only allows 3 days next week to get the proposal together. I don’t believe we can do a good job in that time frame. We need to design the playground equipment and get 2D and 3D drawings produced. We need to get together quotes on installing the playground, excavating the site and installing PIP rubber. That all takes time. Can you extend the period for a week or 2?

GOVERNMENT RESPONSE: The solicitation due date has been extended one week.

All quotes must be submitted no later than 1:00 PM, Friday, January 12, 2024.
