Over Micro-Purchase Threshold but Not Exceeding the SAT ($250K)

1. Contracting Activity: : Department of Veterans Affairs, VISN 4, H.J. Heinz Campus, 1010 Delafield

2. Brief Description of Supplies/ Services required and the intended use/Estimated Amount: The VA Pittsburgh H.J. Heinz Community Living Center has a brand name requirement for the purchase of

(6) MV3 Bariatric Beds for use by the Veterans residing Living Center. The objective of the acquisition has been identified by nursing leadership as the option to meet the faciities’ long-term care for our CLC Veterans. This procurement will replace the need to maintain our current bariatric bed rentals for a cost-saving and improved alternative.

3. Unique characteristics that limit availability to only one source, with the reason no other supplies or services can be used:

The Stryker bariatric beds have an extra heavy-duty and extra wide build along with a higher weight capacity than standard models; specifically designed to safely accommodate larger individuals. The beds also offer the option for expandable width settings 36/42/48 inches to provide the flexibility needed to be able to utilize the same bed on patients of various sizes. This bed model was designed to provide many features in one package required to care for the specified patient population. The beds are built to bear the capacity needed for those who are obese to help prevent injuries or bedsores and play a significant role in both patient satisfaction, dignity and safety at VA Pittsburgh patients residing in the Community Living Center at the H.J Heinz campus.

4. Description of market research conducted and results or statement why it was not conducted:

Market research was conducted by searching items found on GSA. Searched SAC contracts, SCMC, MEDPDB, and ECAT. Posted a Sources Sought Notice that identified two authorized distributors.
