Lolo National Forest, NRPT 24’ Horse Trailer
Purpose: This trailer will be used to haul a Pack Train (up to 7 head of horses weighing up to 1200 LBS) across Montana and northern Idaho on rough roads with tack, tools, gear, grain, and supplies. This trailer will be on steep and rough roads in adverse weather conditions which include snowy and icy roads to access remote trailheads.
Equipment Number Specifications
Equipment Type: Steel gooseneck stock combo-type trailer, Dual Axle Horse Trailer
Size Restriction: 24 feet total deck length.
Minimum 7’6” width x 24’ length x 7’ height.
Minimum 16,000 lb. GVWR – two 8,000 lb. axles with greaseable hub Minimum tack room – 4’ x 6’ slanted wall
Braking: Electric/Drum brakes
Other Needed:
• Minimum 16,000 LBS Drop-leg Jack
• Minimum 16 -inch tires, 14 ply
• Adjustable 2-5/16” adjustable coupler
• LED Lighting package – tail and running lights, two lights in stock compartment, two lights in tack room, switches by tack room door, three exterior lights – one at rear and one on each side
• Windows in gooseneck nose – both sides
• Siding: two air gaps the length of the stock area of the trailer (not windows)
• Trailer breakaway battery in weather resistant compartment
• Requires a tack room – slanted wall sealed from stock compartment. Eight bridle racks and brush bin, three saddle racks need to be removeable, blanket bar, carpeted nose, rubber mat floor, Minimum 36” door
• Stock compartment – solid rear door, no dividers, heavy duty rubber mat floor, solid rear door, front escape/access door with air gaps to match siding
• Cross members, uprights, and roof bows on 12’ centers
• Color: white
• Trailer needs to allow the animals to be facing straight rather than at an angle.
Attachments: Spare Tire/wheel assembly with spare tire mount on trailer
