Attachment #1

1. Contracting Activity: AFRL/RIKO, 26 Electronic Pkwy, Rome NY 13441 Contracting Officer:

Purchase Request: F4HBL10042A002

2. Nature and/or Description of the Action Being Processed

AFRL/RITE requires radio frequency sources and supporting hardware for superconducting quantum processing applications.

This justification is for a new Firm Fixed Price (FFP) supply purchase.

3. Description of Supplies/Services Required to Meet the Agency’s Needs

The following instruments will be purchased. The SGS100A RF Source and accompanying items (a-j) will be outfitted with a 60 month extended warranty. The SMA100B Signal Generator and accompanying items (a-k) will be outfitted with a 60 month extended warranty. The SMW200A Signal Generator and accompanying items (a-i) will be outfitted with a 60 month extended warranty. Item (i) will have a 12-month standard warranty.

SGS100A SGMA RF Source

a. SGS100A (2x)

b. SGS-B1 (2x)

c. SGS-B26 (2x)

d. SGS-B106V (2x)

e. SGS-B112V (2x)

f. SGS-K22 (2x)

g. SGS-K90 (2x)

h. ACASGS100A (2x)

i. ZZA-KN20 (2x)

j. CW2SGS100A (2x)

R&S SGS100A SGMA RF Source is the smallest fully integrated vector signal generator on the market [1 height unit (1.75 inches) by 19.5 inches long], saving space for system integration; and can enable high throughput due to very short frequency times ~ 280 microseconds. It can be used as a local oscillator (LO) for cavity measurements or as an LO for IQ sideband generation. The Single Sideband (SSB) Phase Noise (noise that spreads from carrier to sideband) is -133 dBc [decibels relative to the carrier]. The SSB Phase Noise is further lowered with the OCXO option.

The SGS100A RF Source has a frequency range: 1 MHz – 12.75 GHz: Continuous Wave; 80 MHz -

12.75 GHz: I/Q Modulator and uses a 10 MHz reference and a 1 GHz reference standard, which are used to generate phase-coherent, synchronized signals between two signal sources. When coupled with the SGS-K90, (oven controlled crystal oscillator) we can obtain much better phase-coherence.

SMA100B Signal Generator

a. SMA100B (1x)

b. SMAB-B92 (1x)

c. SMAB-B120 (1x)

d. SMAB-K33 (1x)

e. SMAB-B711** (1x)

f. SMAB-K22 (1x)

g. SMAB-K23 (1x)

h. SMAB-K703 (1x)

i. ZZA-KNP21 (1x)

j. ERST.2 (1x)

k. CW2SMA100B (1x)

R&S SMA100B is an RF and microwave analog signal generator with ultra-low wideband phase noise and high spectral purity, which we utilize for precision measurement and control of superconducting microwave cavities. With the SMAB711 option, the unit has the lowest commercially available phase noise (e.g. SSB phase noise < -130 dBc at 10 kHz, SSB phase noise < -160 dBc at 10 MHz, on a 10 GHz carrier). In addition, with option SMAB-K33, RF signal up to 27 dBm can be applied, which will be important for controlling and measuring quantum optomechanical transducer systems. Finally, the SMAB-K703 option will enable us to utilize the SMA100B to synchronize with very high stability the combined network of SMW200A and multiple SGS100A sources for phase coherent operation in a single experiment.

SMW200A Signal Generator

a. SMW200A (1x)

b. SMW-B1020 (1x)

c. SMW-B13 (1x)

d. SMW-B90 (1x)

e. SMW-K22 (1x)

f. SMW-K23 (1x)

g. SMW-K703 (1x)

h. SMW-K16 (1x)

i. SMW-B711** (1x)

j. ZZA-KN4 (1x)

k. CW2SMW200A (1x)

R&S SMW200A vector signal generator is a wideband baseband generator and vector signal generator in one unit. In the configuration that we are purchasing, it can be utilized to generate 2 phase coherent signals up to 20 GHz with I/Q baseband modulation bandwidth up to 160 MHz. With the SMW-K703 option, the unit’s 1 GHz output port can be utilized as a low noise 1 GHz reference (with SSB phase noise < -154 dBc at 10 MHz off-set) to provide very high phase stability phase synchronization between multiple generators. Additionally, the SMW-B711 option provides high spectral purity and ultra-low wideband phase noise (for example, SSB phase noise <-160 dBc at 10 MHz from 3 GHz carrier).
