About this file
This document contains a sole source justification for the procurement of polycarbonate sheets by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. The Bureau requires 48" x 96" polycarbonate sheets that are 0.220" thick and branded as LEXAN due to its superior durability and strength compared to other polycarbonate sheets. The independent government cost estimate for this procurement is $17,000. Sole sourcing is justified because the LEXAN brand is required to meet the Bureau's needs for a durable, crack-resistant sheet suitable for uninterrupted operation. Concurrently, solicitation number 2031ZA24Q00168 seeks quotes for these LEXAN polycarbonate sheets with deliveries required within 90 days of award.

SHEET THAT IS CLEAR AS GLASS AND 250 STRONGER 9030 & 9034 THICKNESS IS .220 48"

The LEXAN brand polycarbonate sheet is required for the following rationale:
- The PSI for regular polycarbonate sheets was rated at only 10,000 PSI while the PSI for Lexan brand rated between 10,100 – 10,200 PSI. This makes the Lexan brand more durable and less prone to cracking. Less cracking meant reduced need for replacement sheets; uninterrupted normal operation and significant savings in the procurement process.
- The end-user has used both regular polycarbonate sheets and Lexan brand and the difference was significant – Lexan brand is more durable.
