• Any service, equipment or material not documented in contract will need approval from the DPS Director or his designee before it can take place or be purchased.

• Maintenance, labor, and materials to be included in pricing.

• * Pricing must include all travel time needed to fulfill annual contract maintenance. “Service / Travel Fee” listed on Page 10 of the document shall be charged per service day, not per service location.

• Annual Inspection fee is to include cost of O Ring, Seal and needed labels.

• All work shall comply in every respect with the Building Laws, City Regulations, Code Requirements (City, State, or International).

• All work will be left in a clean safe and workable condition.

• If there are any questions regarding the work that is to be done, it will be the responsibility of the contractor to contact the Public Services Director or his Designee and request clarifications before proceeding.

• If an extinguisher needs to be taken for maintenance, there will be a loner left in its place. At no time will there be an extinguisher missing from the area where it belongs while it is being serviced.

• Vehicle extinguishers will be invoiced from the division they came from. Staff will work with contractor to determine these locations.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER TESTING

Below is the list of what is included in each of the Testing and Recharging criteria as understood by the City of Brighton.

ANNUAL FIRE EXTINGUISHER INSPECTION

1. Physical Condition:

• Inspect the extinguisher for any signs of damage like dents, rust, corrosion, or leaks.

• Ensure the labels are legible and easy to read.

• Check the hose and nozzle for damage or obstructions.

2. Pressure and Operational Status:

• Verify the pressure gauge indicates the extinguisher is properly charged.

• Check that the pin and tamper seal are intact and undamaged.

• Confirm the extinguisher is in its designated location and is easily accessible.

3. Weight Verification:

• Ensure the extinguisher weighs within the specified limits, indicating it is full and not leaking.

4. Discharge Test (if applicable):

• In some cases, a discharge test may be conducted to ensure the extinguisher operates properly.

5. Tagging and Documentation:

• A compliance inspection tag, valid for one year, is typically placed on the extinguisher after a successful inspection.

• Records of the inspection are kept for future reference.

6 YEAR FIRE EXTINGUISHER INSPECTION

1. Disassembly and Inspection:

• The extinguisher is fully emptied and disassembled.

• The technician inspects the inside of the cylinder for any signs of damage, such as corrosion or cracks.

• The valve assembly is also disassembled and cleaned, with a check for any obstructions or damage.

• The exterior of the cylinder is inspected for any visible damage, leaks, or abnormalities.

2. Recharging

• Depending on the type of extinguisher and its condition, it may be refilled with the appropriate extinguishing agent (e.g., dry chemical, carbon dioxide) and nitrogen gas.

• If the extinguisher is non-rechargeable, it will be removed from service after 12 years from the date of manufacture.

3. Reassembly and Verification:

• The extinguisher is reassembled, and the technician verifies the proper pressure and functionality of the valve and other components.

• A service verification tag is attached to the extinguisher, documenting the date and type of maintenance performed.

HYDROSTATIC TEST (12-YEAR TESTING)

1. Initial Checks:

• The process begins with preliminary checks, similar to the 6-year maintenance checks.

2. Discharge and Disassembly:

• The fire extinguisher is completely emptied and disassembled to prepare for the hydrostatic test.

3. Hydrostatic Testing:

• Filling: The cylinder is filled with water or another non-compressible fluid.

• Pressure Application: The cylinder is placed in a hydrostatic test cage and pressurized.

• Leak and Deformation Check: The cylinder is monitored for leaks or deformation under the applied pressure.

• Pressure Maintenance: The pressure is maintained, and the cylinder is checked for leaks or damage.

4. Drying, Reassembling, and Recharging:
