Requirements / Specifications: Laser system Version 1.0 (2019)

TITLE: Laser system Requesting Lab/Division/Group: PML 688-10 Ion Storage

General Statement of Need The NIST Ion Storage group performs quantum information processing experiments with trapped ions. For a newly awarded research program within the Quantum Network Grand Challenge we have a need for additional laser system for research on trapped calcium ions, involving 3 individual lasers and related components. These lasers are required to drive specific atomic transitions that are involved in converting quantum information from trapped ions to photons in the telecom range. The lasers must be compatible with an existing system and for integration into an existing NIST computer-control system used to perform experiments, and therefore microprocessor/remote control capabilities are required. Laser diodes can degrade and/or fail, and therefore spare laser diodes are needed to enable fast on-site repair.
